They secretly have cloaked mouths....and they eat when you turn your back....

    And their favourite meal?
Fried Chicken.....which they must steal from the Terran...

They also partake in zergling nuggets with Terran blood for dipping sauce.

They have warp technology. They can just warp the food directly into their stomachs. They use blenders to grind it up b4 they warp it in of course (u got to chew ur food somehow)

Aight.... the photosynthesis theory is PART of the story for sure. But I don't think it's the entire explanation. True, that you don't need chlorophyll to absorb the rays of the sun, but an organism like the Protoss needs a lot of energy, and therefore, if it were to be moving around using only the energy provided by the sun, they would need to have a MUCH greater surface area. This is why plants have leaves. They provide more surface area to absorb the rays of the sun. And don't get any ideas about the sun on Auir being hotter, it is extremely unlikely that it is.

Furthermore, an organism that relies on photosynthesis is constantly absorbing light in order to survive, so unless they have some sort of heat lamp on their ship, they probably wouldn't do well on those long voyages. In fact, they would need a heat lamp wherever they go because the amounts of light on different planets varies greatly. Let's just say that they're like most animals, they require some amount of heat and light and conduct a minor amount of photosynthesis, just like humans do. We absorb most of our Vitamin K from the sun's rays.

Although it sounds kind of ridiculous, I agree with the earlier post that the Protoss probably intake food through their feet. In Animorphs they explain this quite in depth. The race in Animorphs (forget their name) excretes enzymes, much like a fly does, and then reabsorbs it. Ever seen a Protoss wearing shoes? Didn't think so. Also, the fact that the Protoss' knees are bent backward but are still bipedal is a good indication that they evolved on grasslands and are built for speed, just as the race from Animorphs.

As to their hearing, and being able to hear other beings talk (such as humans) is a result of the bones in their heads being hollow or having a bone similar to the cochlea which can pick up the vibrations of speech, or even telekinetic waves.

As to their having a mouth near their crotch, I find it highly unlikely as evolving in that way would have required meticulous self-grooming in order to avoid disease.

Here's a solution to the problem, though. Maybe Blizzard could develop a little more as to the actual social habits of these creatures. Most of the characteristics I mentioned about the Protoss are simply the cause of an artist's rendering, not actual historical evolution or anything of the sort. I doubt any thought went into their social or anatomical structures when the original game was designed.

    -------------------------------

The last post thing I remember from this argument is that someone mentioned the way the Zerg eat. I can't specify the source as I can't remember exactly where I saw it, but I assume it was in one of the StarCraft books. I remember it saying that the Zerg metabolize only Vespene gas and create no waste. I'm not sure how Zerglings and drones would be fed under this system, but there it is. Maybe they can specially metabolize minerals. But this is a good explanation when you look at the gas cost of an Ultralisk. That thing must be HUNGRY!

That's very insightful and good to know. I always thought that they consumed the gas, and the minerals went to making their hardened carapaces.

As for drones and zerglings, I think something as basic as a drone, or something of which 2 can be made from one larva would be able to survive on just minerals, with a more basic metabolism, if that makes any sense...also, it may be that the worlds from which they were assimilated into the Zerg swarm didn't have vespene gas, so they were forced to find other ways to sustain themselves.

We actually get our vitamin K from bacteria in the intestines, primarily E. Coli. I think you're thinking of vitamin D. That doesn't lead to any useful energy-releasing molecules though, only changes the form of the vitamin D molecule

yeah I was actually thinking about that earlier...I had heard of vitamin D from the sun but have hardly ever even heard of vitamin K

    what does vitamin K do?

I always thought tat when nobodys looking a drones with a nurse hat on would come and force minerals down the zerglings throats.

or its possible that the creep is field with nutrience which is produced from mixing minerals and gass. Tha creep sustains building and small critters like drons and zerlings which do not require much resourses because they get sustained by the creep.

Hahhahahah lol. It'd be hard for a Protoss to survive on photosynthesis on a planet like Shakuras... which is all dark and stuff. They probably dont eat at all, just absorb nutrients one way or another. Whether through their feet who knows, if it goes through their skin theres possibly no way of knowing without one telling us. I always figured they had the minimal holes possible because they do fare through space without any helmets, although that makes sense because they dont require oxygen do they? They probably dont need to regulate body temperature that much, or do it automatically, therefore absorbing nutrients straight into organs and muscle... which is why they're so damn skinny.
