not all creatures need a nose to sense smells. they may have some chemical receptors on the head or body that provide the same effect of smell. So your going to have to find something new for that, as that idea has now been called into question.

As to part 2, sunlight is only energy, and it wouldn't provide the amino acids necessary to synthesis proteins. We get our amino acids from what we eat, and from plants. The plants get it from soil. and i find it hard to believe that the toss like to roll around in the mud.

    The consume vespene gas......(probably not)

Anyway it doesn't make sense that they carry out photosythesis because they don't have chlorophyll. Or are there some other chemical apart from chlorophyll that allow them to make food inside their body?

Tassadar definitely had a nose, watch the final cinematic in the original campaign and you see it very clearly, so that means they probably have lungs for oxygen to diffuse into their body and respire for energy......

they are probably completley different to us in everyway, if i said to you, imagine a different type of movment that no animal has on earth, you coudnt really do it.
thats how aliens really are, who says you need clorophil to absorb sunligh, or need lungs to breath in air, and why would they do that anyway?

Ok saying that "because protoss are fundamentally different then there's no point in theorising how they work" is just a cop-out. The protoss, like us, are still bound by the physical laws of the universe. The breathing thing; they could do it by exchanging CO2 and O2 through their skin like most arthropods. Photosynthesis doesn't necessarily require chlorophyll, just some kind of pigment that can absorb the energy from photons, their skin looks kinda purpley sometimes so it's probably light somewhere near the UV spectrum (which also means they're probably quite resistant to sunburn). And maybe they absorb amino acids, minerals, vitamins etc through their skin too, like bacteria do. Somehow by secreting digestive enzymes through their skin and reabsorbing the broken down substances. The logistics of that would be rather awkward though. They'd have to roll around on, or hug, anything they want to eat. And for a multi-cellular organism the size of a protoss, it's an extremely inefficient way of gathering nutrients. I don't see how they could have evolved without mouths. And keep in mind that the Xel'Naga modified extant species, rather than creating them anew. But who's to say they don't have some kind of mouth under that little loin-cloth of theirs?

Well obviously their anatomy is different, they're freakin 9 feet tall. Our anatomy is different from a dog's, but life forms all need the same basic requirements. I was merely suggesting possible ways of obtaining those without the use of a mouth.

The toss were modified from another species, so they should have regular operating organ systems. if they evolved because of the xelnaga additions, they might still have the old systems in there bodys, but it would be like an appendix. or rather, a large series of vestigial structures. i doubt any would be operational, but they would still be there.

The Protoss don't eat, they're manifestations of Psi Energy essentially just a form of Energy in "carbon" physical form. Take an example of the Organians of Star Trek, they are manifestations of energy and are non corporeal, the Protoss IMO are the same in that they are made up of energy which appears to others in a physical form.

I read somewhere that toss feed off eachothers psi, then release "waste psi", this waste is the nourishment for another.

So basically they feed of eachothers crap.
