I only wish you could see how ignorant you're being -Behemoth. The Battlecruiser doesn't have a "freeze your enemy", "light it on fire for a while" or "steal energy" attack, and its only ability is either an Area of Effect ground attack or a single target attack, does that make it not unique? The Viking doesn't have any ability in Air Form, does that make it not unique? The Banshee only has Cloak, does that make it not unique? The Mutalisk only has a bit of splash (technically not splash, but in effect it is), does that make it not unique? Ok, ok, ok, I think I've made my point. The only thing that wouldn't be unique is a unit that has one standard attack that deals the same damage to all targets. The Phoenix, on the other hand, does additional damage to armored units and has Overload. It's more unique than most units. Most other units can't do anything special at all, so why do you say it's the Phoenix that isn't unique?
Also, "plus the tank is a tank after all" has to be one of the stupidest arguments I've ever heard on this forum, and saying "the tank was the first with the up power ability" is also pretty much an invalid argument because what other ability is a unit designed for DPS going to do?
Use some serious arguments when you post. Don't just say "I don't like it because it's not unique" because it is unique. The only way you're going to prove it isn't is to post constructive arguments.

yeah...and dont think that war3 units are unique just because they all have different spells and all, and that sc units are not unique because they dont have anything special. a marine with a gun and stimpack....how unique is that? =]

I got a question for everyone, not just -Behemoth. Do you guys think the Thor is unique? I mean unique as in a one-of-a-kind unit to the Terran team, not unique as in a new concept.

Ok first off: Itza-Yes those abilties make all those units unique. What does that have to do with the pheonix? And how do you figure it is more unique than any unit? The stimpack makes rines unique not because its a bonus to firepower, but it also makes them much faster, which is a killer strategy in tight situations. The BC has the area effect, which makes it unique not becuase its stronger, but because it allows you to fend off multiple units at once. Consider the Pheonix online: Why not just make the map so it has a median base attack, so you don't have to even press the Overload button. The only thing you gain other than attack power is a swift ticket to no power for a substantial amount of time. The tank is basically the same, but at least it -did- have it first. And is the "tank is a tank" argument really that stupid? What would you expect a tank to do?

As for the second topic: Was the Thor announced first or the Mothership?

Lol, that's EXACTLY what the Overload does! It helps it fend of multiple units at once! XD

Bonus speed makes it unique? Hydralisks, Lings and Zels have that too, so is only one of those units unique?

Just like the Siege Tank during the transformation? Dude...

You mean Itza's Thor question? You're not saying that you think the Thor is less unique if the MS was announced before are you?! (but for your information, the MS was announced first.)

Ok I took another look at the pheonix gameplay footage, and I've reconsidered my angle. I completely forgot it that overload attacked multiple units at once. My bad lol. Maybe the word I was looking for wasn't unique, so much as...multipurposed...I think. As long as it has the splash, I have no problem with it.

And no I wasn't going to say that the Thor isn't unique because it didn't come first. Just that it seems that the only reason it was made was in response to the Mother Ship. Then again I suppose all units have that to some degree. Is there really a use for it other than to look good? I mean we already have the tank.

Does the tank fire at air with a dedicated attack + can take a lot of damage? I don't think so.
The Crucio Siege Tank ain't a WoW Tanker, if that's what you think. the Crucio is basicly a support unit in Assault Mode and heavy bombardment station in Siege Mode.

You need to stop arguing about what you do not know anything about.
You can't come and say " Is there really a use for it other than to look good? I mean we already have the tank." when you don't even know of its purpose.

    Dude its a question...
Do you understand what a question is?
Anyways, so the jist of it is that it is a tank that can hit air.
    Am i correct?

But you used it as part of the arguement. "I mean we already have the tank" meant that you thought the Thor overlapped with the Siege Tank, but in truth, you didn't even know the Thor's role, as you later admitted.

Yeah, I guess. It's sort of a tanker with GtA.

Anyways if it is a tank that hits air, then y not just use an anti-air/tank combo?

Because there ain't no Terran AA unit ATM. The Thor is trying to occupy that space while doing som anti mechanical/armored damage on the ground.

Haha, Gasmaskguy stole my retaliation rant to -Behemoth's reply, but I'd just like to add in response to "Yes those abilties make all those units unique. What does that have to do with the pheonix?" My point was, why were you saying that all the other abilities make those units unique, but the Phoenix's Overload doesn't? I can see you've changed your views, but the single thing that makes the Phoenix unique isn't the fact that Overload can hit multiple targets, it's a unique unit on the whole, just like most, if not all, other units that are currently in the game.

Ok, hypathetically speaking, if Overload was not able to hit multiple targets, what specifically about the Phoenix makes it unique? And don't just say "the unit as a whole". Name a couple specific things. The fact it can fly? What it looks like? How fast it is?

Its +2 against armored units attack bonus, making it more specialized against capital ships, its fast movement speed, making it the only fast air unit for the Protoss the actually has an attack (Observer and Phase Prism are also fast, but can't attack), and its Overload whether it attacks multiple targets or not, it drastically increases its damage per second. All of those make it unique. Protoss don't have another unit like it.

EDIT: Something that I left out, that the Q&A reminded me of, is that it doesn't require Energy to use Overload, meaning it can still be fired after and EMP.

It disappeared. The Thor is focusing on GtG again.

Well it's not like they'll need to replace or completely redo a current unit, like the Thor, with another Anti-Air unit or build. Can't they just introduce a brand new one?
However, in saying that, the ground form of the Viking already covers the Firebat's anti-infantry role, so I didn't see why they decided to go for the Marauder. The Marines already have enough units to back them up being Reapers that can flank them the enemy, Medics that can heal them, Vikings that can provide Anti-Infantry fire, Siege Tanks that can provide Anti-Armored firepower, but nothing that can provide Anti-Air fire. Why bring in another ground-support unit when there are still areas of lacking in the Terran armada?

Im pretty sure that Blizz is just tryin to make varients of original units, ie: Viking=Goliath, Marauder=Firebat, etc. The only truly new concept is basically the super units (Thor and Mothership) The other units have their new ablities, but you know what you think when someone asks you what replaced the Goliath.
