Petition to have the censor changed back to the old one.

oh, i was wondering what this thread was about. that sounds kind of funny. i think i saw one forum that changed every swear word into a random cute word in brackets, like [sunshine] or [lollipops].

changing it into a whole sentence is rather interesting, though. and confusing.

 

I did something like that, but no brackets. Which did of course change the meaning of sentences.

If there were added parts to the words, it would keep them on. Like say, you did "B****ing", B**** turned into "a nice lady", and ing would still be on, so it would change to, "a nice ladying".

Weird. Maybe the forum isn't properly refreshing again. For example, I only have a single Carrier, yet it displays two. And I had 7 rep points, but it never refreshed to 7. Now they're gone from my user cp as well. :s

 

No I had my rep hidden. I wanted it locked, but that is impossible, so I got it hidden instead.

 

Why? I thinks it's a nice thing, if you don't take it to seriously.

 

Because, since I started this petition, my rep suddendly dropped to neg two. It's posi one now, but you can't tell without me either telling you, or you being able to see something that only mods can.

 

What I think would be cool is if we had an option to turn censorship on or off with it being on as the default. That way everybody wins because people just jumping on the site for the first time won't see any content that may be offensive to them and the people that are comfortable with it or don't prefer a censor can turn it off in their account options. I don't know if it is possible to do something like that on this forum but just something I thought might be a nice feature to have.

 

I can honestly say that I like that idea.
It's not like people are using it to insult each other. Only to strongly express themselves. The censor is annoying sometimes. You hear the f-word all the time on tv, even in regular commercials. People should focuss on real insults, not words that they find inapproperiate.

 

I think someone hide their own mistake after all. :laugh:

 

We don't hear the F word on TV here almost ever. The F.C.C. cracks down hard on that word.

 

The general goal of this site is to stick to a general PG-13 (by American standards) level of content. Or to put it another way we stick to about you would find on network television (in the U.S.) during primetime. If your curious why we stick to U.S. standards pick any of the following:

The site is hosted in the U.S.
The only active admin lives in the U.S.
The only active semi-admin lives in the U.S.
A majority of super mods live in the U.S.
A plurality (if not majority) of users live in the U.S.

 

I'd say plurality, tops. I'd be surprised if it was majority, unless we're including the thousands of inactive members.

 

Lol, ijffdrie and me are both Dutch, and both in the top 5 or something of the most active posters. Where did Darkone come from again?

 

Of the top 5 posters 4 live in the U.S. ijff being the exception.

Like Itza said: it's about active members, not the number of posts. Or even less important: the number of registrations.

But seriously: isn't it possible to let people turn off the sencor in their cp? I mean, come on. At least for the 18+ members. It's not like I want to see those words. It's because I hate sencorship. It's for ******* and communists.

Aurora I know what you said. If you actually looked at the top 5 before commenting you would have noticed only one is arguable in activity and that is BoP the others are ijff, dark, Jon and Fenix. Now let me ask you a question why is it nessecary to cuss?
