Pearce Says Fourth Race Possible in Expansion

Thats balancing for you. It happens like that weather you have 2 factions or 20

 

But, it would take much longer, and have the ideas more spread out. Also, I'm not sure a non-Xel'Naga/non-Hybrid race could have be as unique as the other three.

Because, from the artworks this race really intrigues me. Just look at them, they're reptilian bipeds which seem to posses no arms and have advanced technology. And their society seems very prosperous and advanced (judging from that city artwork). Also becuase little is known about them. A surprise encounter with one of their home worlds during a campaign would be very, well, surprising and interesting.

It just intrigues me to know what blizzard can possibly do with such a different concept for an additional race.

Indeed. I would enjoy a "surprise" encounter with a new playable race. I think this kind of encounter has certain aspects that are better than encountering a race I already know about (Hybrids, say .. somewhat)

I remember the first time I played the Zerg,, And, the first time I played Protoss.. And, the first I saw each of those.. It was great moment

Random battles? i think somewhere in the mid or towards the very end of the last campaing would suit this races appeance. Probably during the middle of a climatic battle with the zerg.

 

maybe at the end of the first(zerg) expansion campaign, when the zerg attak they could upset the balance of the battle

 

A fully robot race would be cool.

 

Not really. It'd be extremely stereotypical, lame and encroach on Terran's creativity and uniqueness.

 

I see the Xel'Naga as the Hybrids .... I see them like physically proach to the Protoss. However I think the Xel'Naga are the balance between the Protoss and the Zerg, and that their power should be between those of Protoss and Zerg.

Xel'Naga are maybe less powerful than Protoss .... ? Duran said "the whole universe will be upset ...for ever" n so the Hybrids, I should say the Xel'Naga, are VERY powerful. And Zeratul, this powerful hero, seemed to be crushed by this presence. He was scared !

A fourth race, the Xel'Naga, playable for the expansion set is THE logical expectation from us. We knew most of us that Blizzard had to add a fourth race as the Xel'Naga for Starcraft 2, but by the way it's for the expansion set. I am SURE that Blizzard is already working on this expansion set ! Maybe the Hybrids will give an end to the History of Starcraft.

 

They are definately working on parts of the expansion and getting a lot of the ideas down. Almost all of the units, lore, and ideas for the expansion of StarCraft were done before the original was released.. Just look at the Dark Templar and the Valkyrie.

 

I always liked the idea where you have to beat up a race/faction 3 to 4 times your size. And you are getting your but totally whooped. But this unknown race comes in and out of the blue beats them up for you. But then they turn on you too and wipe out your outpost. You wouldn't loss the mission for it cause it'd be part of the storyline. But I think that'd be a good idea.

 

I really wouldn't want to see some super powerful race appearing out of the nowhere to save/own you. If it could be helped, it shouldn't use a deus ex machina. It's just going to be a cliche.

 

I hope Blizzard reveals some lore at BlizzCon. These days I'm more hyped up over the storyline / lore than the multiplayer by about 10 to 1.

 

Well without a story, this game would be nothing.

 

If there ever is a new race or races, why does it even have to be present in the SC universe already? Why couldn't it be something absolutely new?

Robots? Some other human faction using robots from their homeworld or some matrix style AI that took over some planet's inhabitants and is now spreading?

What about another entirely new alien race? different from zerg, doesn't need creep or is dependant on mass production. Yes I know the protoss would be that other race, but you know what I mean.

Thinking about it, the UED with a new arsenal does not sound bad at all. Another terran race with different vehicles and buildings, mechanics, skills, abilities, etc... what does it matter that they are humans? they would be a whole other army that plays differently.

Some how the xelnaga just don't seem like a good idea to use a playable race, for the reasons some of you have posted. And hybrids lack creativity. It has to be something new.

 

Well if you think about it the race "types" are already all used. Individuals and strong (Protoss), ranged (Terran), weak and en masse (Zerg).

Unless someone can come up with a revolutionary style for a fourth race...

if they make a fourth race in the expansion of starcraft 2 its either the hybrid race duran was making, or a completly different race we might have not even heard of.

though overall i dont think they will make a 4th race.

How about:

speed? a robotic race could be, in theory, faster than the zerg, robots building robots.

maybe some viral race, just an idea, needs elaboration.

heavy hitters? slow but big, higher hit points, higher attack, but slower, with some pretty destructive spells.

energy? some energy beings, the protoss use energy and can teleport, but I mean some specimens made of energy, no body. though how can you kill energy? hmmm, maybe their bodies are energy, but you kill their armors?

just ideas popping into my mind as I eat at 1am

some kind of ghostly race? Nah

do the xelnaga have enemies? I mean, another race that is as powerful as them? and if so, do this other "godly" race have their own creations like the xelnaga? now im just entering the realm of story lines, back on subject...

im out of ideas, but hey, blizzard gets paid to come up with ideas, imagine the ideas they could have...

EDIT:

another idea, a race that can move its buildings, not like the terran lift off, more like living buildings with legs which can move around while creating units, or maybe this one could fall with the robotic race i talked about, maybe the buildings have wheels or robotical legs, which would help make them a speedier race.
