You would still need to send in an attack party, but it could be a smaller force.

2 Well placed nukes pretty much equals win if the player doesn't have any expansions.

Don't you need more than two nukes to kill a HQ building?

it doesn't matter if you kill the HQ building if you wipe his forces you should have some units to do damage control after 2 nukes. Also 2 nukes should wipe cannons, turrets, sunkens so your units would have no resistance.

In advanced to intermediate games nukes were rarely used due to their high(er) risk of being countered and losing quite a bit of gas and minerals in the process. And to people who think nukes are better than units:

    1. Nukes are easily countered. All they need to do is kill the Ghost and they Nuke's lost. Ton of resources down the drain.

    2. Even if the Nuke hits, it still won't be enough to clean up the enemy unless you send in units or chain-nuke the whole place.

    3. Chain nuking = bad. Lots of gas and minerals lost, and as this happens usually late in the game, minerals are becoming scarce. It's better to spend that on units, which are more flexible.

    4. If they have lost of expansions, you're pretty much screwed with Nukes. They'll work with one or two expos, but beyond that it's pretty hard. Not only is it unlikely that your opponent will fall for the same trick over and over again, but they'll also be countering more effectively.

    5. Using nukes on units are less likely succeed than on bases. Not only can they move out of the way, but if they have any detectors at all they'll be able to take out the Ghost extremely quickly. Certain units such as the BC or the Reaver were unable to avoid the Nuke in time, but Terrans had Comsat as well as defensive matrix and Protoss had Psionic Storm, Observers, and as a last resort, Stasis Field and Recall. Zerg have Overlords, and even a small number of mutas were able to kill a Ghost before the Nuke hit. Therefore the Nuke was ineffective against units unless the player didn't hear the "Nuclear launch detected" and didn't even know what happened, in which case they deserve to lose their army.

    7. Even if you succeed in taking out all base defenses and a lot of the key structures, you still have their army to take out. And unless you've already taken it out you'll still have a lot of resistance. After all, it's not the base defenses that are hard to destroy, it's the units.

Ya, Nukes were great, but they just weren't enough on their own without significant support. I'm sure most people are aware of this, but there ALWAYS seem to be people who think they could win without following up the Nuke with units. Thankfully everyone who posted so far seems to be aware of this, but if anyone's going to say how the Nuke wasn't strong enough, don't.

Also Protoss might have an easier time countering Nukes in SC2:

Obviously it won't work if you have poor micro, but if you have fast reflexes and a Mothership, you should be able to use this on a Nuke and succeed.

To everyone who can't seem to let the idea of radiation go, this is an excerpt from the Marine description on the SC2 site:
So it is probably a safe assumption that every unit has some level of shielding.

Also if you think about they way a nuclear reaction works they aren't going to get a lot stronger as time progresses, at this point in time we have pretty much maxed their destructiveness, seriously when pretty much everything melts at 3,000,000 degree C (just a guess) what difference does it make if the Nuke is 4,000,000 or 8,000,000 degrees C?

Finally if you guys really want it badly enough I guess we can make nukes do as much damage as they should do in the real world but in exchange the Motherships get there weapons at full power as well.....

    Nukes are 300000 C. ;D

But yeah, at that temperature it won't make a difference, since you're dead.

I wonder how a Zergling so close to the explosion could survive this.. and I am not sure from now on but I think I saw this as an artwork somewhere...

Don't demand uber nukes. Obviously the damage has been scaled to preserve fairness. Even the nukes in C&C aren't as nearly as destructive compared to real life.

"The heavy armor worn by marines is effective against small-arms fire and provides them with full life support and NBC (Nuclear/Biological/Chemical) shielding for operation in deep space and other hostile environments."

This argument reminds me of another interesting point. How come rail guns are made so much more effective then the marine's gauss rifle when it uses a similar mechanic? The difference between a rail gun and a gauss rifle is that a rail gun uses one electromagnetic field to propel a projectile at super sonic speeds and a gauss rifle uses multiple electromagnetic fields (in succession?),

    And so I don't get too off topic . . .

1.) Terran Dominion builds 1000 apocalypse class nuclear warheads.
2.) Terran Dominion launces 1000 apocalypse class nuclear warheads at planet char from a safe distance.
3.) Terran Dominion sends military forces to mop up any zerg that survived.
    4.) Zerg problem solved.

This nike is like the nuke used in world in conflict. Its a tactical warhead, designed for small area annhilation.

The first problem is you need to get a squad of BC near char to launch those warheads and it's too risky, second since the zerg own T and P in Brood War,terran doesn't have enough resources to build 1000 warheads,

It would be cool if in the campaign a real nuke was used to annihilate an entire base. then your next mission could be timed to kill the nuke launcher before it launched another one at your base.
