Personally I don't like the Contagion ability.  As it is now, it seems that it would either be too good or useless.  And like DontHate, I also very much dislike the percent chance part of it, it doesn't really fit SC.

Whether the unit will have Consume like defiler will be an important questions.  Depending on which, there would be problems. If it has Consume, Incubate and Contagion would be imba.  But if it doesn't have Consume, it would be a problem with darkswarm due to the nature of the ability.  I believe if they keep darkswarm in SC2, it needs to be coupled with consume.  Thus, abilities like incubate and contagion should not be on the same unit that will cast darkswarm.

So we have Ferolisk for Contagion and Incubate which is an evolution of the defiler?
And defiler have dark swarm and probably plague?

Sounds good. Lose your dark swarm and get contagion and incubate. Interesting.

I liked the description up until that Contagion/Infestation ability. I find that there are problems with each of the infestations.
First of all, I think that by now the Terran would have constructed nearly impenetrable armor that completely covers the Marine's/Reaper's/Ghost's etc's body, so the parasitic creatures that are supposed to infest them wouldn't be able to get inside.
Secondly, there is a similar argument for Infested Protoss as there was for the Terran, but on top of that, if the Protoss Zealots/Templars or whatevers felt themselves being taken over by these parasites, they would not allow it. And by not allowing it I don't mean that it'd say "No means NO!". However, as previously said the Protoss are a very honorable race, and that one of the most honorable things would be to destroy an Infested Protoss, but the Infested Protoss would definitely have already commited Seppuku before he has been completely taken over.
Lastly, I find it very hard to imagine a Zerg infested Zerg. It really doesn't fit in, no matter how you look at it, from storyline to gameplay. The Zerg would rather mutate/evolve their own creature rather than having to Infest other Zerg.

Seppuku was a code practiced by Samurai's that stated if they were to fall into enemy hands then they would kill themselves. To prevent them from being shamed or giving any information. Basically, it being captured by the enemy and gaoled or made into a slave was one of the most shameful things that could happen to a Samurai, so they would die honorably on their own sword. I reckon that Protoss Warriors would do something similar if they had been captured by the Zerg to prevent them from assimilating the Protoss' genes.

I don't think the zerg are smart enough to capture a protoss, it would be much more likely if they just killed the protoss

I just used capturing as an example because that's when the Seppuku ritual was exercised by the Samurai's. The Protoss would do it when being taken over by the Contagion ability, to prevent themselves from killing their own kind (which would be extremely dishonorable).

i agree, spiritually the protoss definitely have similarities with japanese samurai's. there are references to this everywhere in the zealot

zealot is a main unit but it's melee even though they have great technology
    spiritual training of zealots
    the name zealot
    "my life for aiur"

But besides the Zealot, all the Protoss units are honorable. Not one of them would allow itself to be taken over by Zerg parasites or captured by the Zerg. There would have to be extreme circumstances where any Protoss unit is captured and held prisoner, tortured or to have information squeezed out of them. These would be one of the most dishonorable things that could happen to any units in the game (except maybe Zerg units) and Protoss Warriors would most definitely take their own life rather than lead the confined life of a prisoner.

I did say that there would have to be extreme circumstances for them to be captured. And seeing as it isn't even certain what/who Duran is or what he's up to/who he's working for, and seeing that he called Zeratul (who is 634 years old, much older than any Terran should be) young, I think we can conclude that those were indeed extreme circumstances.

Woah woah woah, I think everyone is getting confused here. It most certainly would not work because us Zerg wouldn't want any of that cheap stuff from Protoss's shallow gene pool. Don't even bother with all that honor crap, we don't even want it.

When the Zerg assimilate other species, the new creature does not end up 1/2 Zerg, 1/2 other creature. The Zerg take what parts of the DNA that would be useful to them and seek to eradicate all of the leftovers. If the Zerg did assimilate a Protoss Warrior, the new Zerg unit wouldn't be honorable or noble, it would just have the strength (both physically and mentally) and the powers of the Protoss' Psychic abilities (that's not to say that they would have the exact same abilities as Protoss High Templar or anything, but they would have access to these powers). Therefore it would be a huge benefit to the Zerg Swarm to be able to assimilate Protoss, but they simply aren't able to. The Hybrid is the only way to cross these two races.

man you guys came along and destroyed the idea. lol. I mean who would say that a protoss wouldn't even be aware of himself being infected.....But i can see where your saying the protoss would kill themselves before they were taken over. Meh good idea. maybe just make them only able to infest terran and other organic creatures...

I don't like the percentage chance either. They don't belong in StarCraft.

I've stated this opinion in a number of threads, including the Zealot charge, etc....

But I like the ability that allows you to produce with mobility. Pretty cool. I actually like it better than Remy's turtle.
