So, what? They're permanently suspended in a giant, psionic hamster ball?

  2. I know that it will try to get all particles but the sheilds tend to work better on larger objects.. For example, the Immortal.

Nah, the Immortal has a completely different type of shield. It's not like the others'.

Yes they are, but shields can be lowered whenever they want them. During a battle they wouldn't do that, so they can't get dirty. That's my theory at least. Shiny buildings would also go well with the Protoss pride and mentality, as well as further distinguish the races in appearance.

I don't think that my Mr.Clean post should be thanked XD

Well buildings are not units so they can't really "decide" to drop their shields. Anyway, I still think that the shield is not impervious to everything, (examples give above). I think the dust should be the last of their concerns.

If Blizzard implements show on buildings in snowy environment I want snow on Protoss building. If they answer, "well Kuvasz made us realize that snow is repelled by shield", I will hate you profoundly. :D

Of course they can. Of there's a Protoss inside the building they can turn it on or off. Or it could have a sensing mechanism when it detects a hostile presence it raises it shields but otherwise has them down. This is to conserve power. it could be remotely triggered too by another Protoss in another building as well.

Even though they are starving us of high res shots, the screens do look amazing.

The protoss doesnt want to waste energy for their shields when they are not fighting. Surerly dust and dirt will get them. So i think, they should look just a little gritty...not as bad as the terran and such.

My point about the giant psionic hamster ball was that they're still running, and quite quickly I might add, in direct contact with the ground. If they're running in direct contact with the ground then they're going to be kicking up the dust. If they're going to be kicking up dust, then they're going to get dirty.

Then there's also the point that the Protoss have fought in countless battles and the chances that their opponents have never been able to break through to their shields is remote, so all of them would have not only been exposed to what's around them, but under intense battle conditions as well.

So they can get dirty, and chances are a lot of the would already be dirty.

I don't remember building requiring Psy energy to maintain like usual unit does. No ones inside those building as far as I know. The automatic detection is more likely. Then again if the shields are down while there is no eminent threat, then dust would get to the building. Unless dust is a threat to Protoss warriors, that would waste all that energy.

Edit * About that psy part, maybe not all unit requires food/psy. The human inside Missile Turret does not seem to count as a unit. I would, on the other side, not really give food to any human spinning at that speed entire games. When it stops to fire, they would waste all that food :(

  14. Gameplay \=\ Lore

After spending more than half of my life playing Blizzard games, I've come to the conclusion that this should be an equation learned in math class to prevent any confusion in an adult's life (Isn't it the school's responsibility to prepare the child/student for real life?)

When you get onto the forums, you shuold be required to stand at attention, salute, put your hand over your heart, and sing the "Blizzard Anthem" .. with these key words in the lyrics for a reminder.

    --

But, back on topic, maybe the Protoss's metal used simply doesn't attract dust or maybe repels it... No, it's not likely or really a good idea.. Just throwing that out there to stay on topic :)

I didn't get the relevance of the running part at all so I won't address that. As for the quoted bit, Protoss buildings are warped in from their homeland. Their homeland is not under attack (forget about Aiur for now, we're talking about multiplayer), hence they're perfectly clean on the battlefield (actual multiplayer map), period.

Yes, that means I wouldn't mind dirt and scratches on them in the campaign, but seeing dirty and snowy buildings in multiplayer is ridiculous and ruins the Protoss theme of being proud and perfect.

The thing about running was in relation to the fact that all Protoss units and buildings are in direct contact with the ground. They're not completely isolated from the conditions of the world they're on, therefore they will be effected by them.

Also, the fact that buildings are warped if from their homeland has little to nothing to do with the fact that they'd have been in countless wars and that their shields would still have been broken.

Just because they have shields it doesn't mean they're completely isolated from existence, especially when you remember that their shields aren't always full all the time. They're still attacked and they're still effected by the conditions around them.

Lastly, I doubt the Protoss' pride would be too damaged upon seeing some buildings covered in dirt or snow when they're constantly being besieged by the Terran and Zerg.

Just one more thing, why would it be alright for the ones in the missions to be weathered but not for the ones in multiplayer? They're the exact same buildings.

Does anyone know where they store all those Gateways and Stargates?

I think you should reread that walking part, it's a pretty interresting idea. :)

To be proud as much as a Protoss is far from being perfect.

Yes, but you can still want to become perfect. I don't see how any of you can imagine unperfect Protoss when they'd rather die than get repaired...

Since when are buildings warped back to their homeland? Not to my knowledge they aren't, in which case you'd always warp in perfect buildings onto the battlefield. And there's no such thing as broken shields. You either have shields or you don't. It's a force that's either there or it's not, there's no intermediate stances (them being shields reducing damage, which is not the case, because they absorb it completely).

Well I think it's common sense that buildings would be warped back. To think of the wasted number that's being warped out, and what's going to be cheaper? Warping a building back, which would probably have the same energy cost, or completely building a brand new warp gate type building from the ground up? Units would get warped back, so why wouldn't buildings? The Protoss are all about calling in what they already have, not making new stuff all the time. Regardless of whether it's warped back to their homeworld or just warped in from a planet that's not their homeland, every single building they warp in would not have just been freshly built on their homeworld.

Also, although there may not be such a thing as broken shields, but there is such thing as your opponent breaking through your shields. You said so yourself. There're no intermediate stances, as it's either there or it's not. It's what happens when a Gateway takes five hundred and one damage, or a Stargate takes six hundred and one damage, etc.

And you haven't replied about the other stuff, so the point still remains that they aren't in complete isolation from the conditions surrounding them, so they will be effected about the conditions surrounding them.

Shield regens, slightly higher than 501 and one dammage should be required depending on the speed at which the damage is dealt. Unless it's a nuke + 1 damage :D

Warping building back to home world ? I think they should consider leaving outpost at new controlled areas. If they do, eventually they would need new buildings, were do they store those? Where do they warp in units and building from?

When you click on Z in a gateway, it actually takes any random Zealot on home world? "You are required for war" Then gets warped out of bed while having psychic sex with his wife? "My wife for Aiur!" . That's some pretty hard conscription.
