The Protoss is more busily with air and space as the Terran and Zerg ,therefore the Protoss needs still another air unit.
As for example as fake or ATA .(scout,corsair,ore.......).
The unit must be very costly.

It depends what role the new unit is gonna have. If it's role is too similar to any of toss air units at the moment, then that one will be scrapped. Although, i never liked the warp ray.

I had always thought that the Terrans had been the air superiority in SC1 but now it seems the protoss are becoming this.

I say, remove the carrier and turn it back into the tempest.

You have the pheonix, your light aerial unit that is more effective against air.

You have the warp ray, which is your aerial siege unit that is good against large units and buildings.

You have the mothership, which is an excellent support unit.

And then you have the tempest, which is effective against ground units, but vulnerable against air units.

The mother ship is supposed to be somewhat of a stronger arbitar, and I think that they are kind of trying too hard on that.

I don't think it's supposed to be a "stronger arbiter", I just think the Protoss needed a big powerful capital ship.

You mean the carrier wasn't powerful enough? I found it to be the strongest ship in the game.

A massed group of wraith can indeed take out a carrier pretty fast. However, a smart player always sends an observer along with their armada or, my favourite tactic for carriers, position an arbiter near a shield battery and use recall to save carriers in need. Sadly, the arbiter is gone now, and so is recall. Blizzard should do something about that shortcoming they -the protoss air units- have now.

Recall was a great ability, even though I never used it much. I usually used the arbiter for its cloaking field to cloak my carriers, and have the arbiter behind them so enemy units would have to get past the interceptors before reaching the arbiter.

Also, I would usually have more than one, in case one got destroyed, so I would still have my army cloaked.

Good old matches... my whole zealot-dragoon army massed, 12 arbiters (mainly hallucinations) sent in to the enemy base.. And recall. It just looks great :D Also the other freezing ability was nice.

You mean Stasis Cell? That was a nice ability, but I found its usefulness limited to dire situations or desperate attacks. But if it was to that point, investing the gas for arbiters didn't seem to be a good idea.

    Yea Stasis Cell, that's it!

I like to place a probe to each ramp, so when the enemy tries to attack without transports, the stasis cell can force them to other directions. (Pretty useful against DT HT Zealot Dragoon combos)

In one pro match is was used against a ghost, because he had only the arbter nearby and the ghost was nearly done with the nuking.
