So will the Colossus go the way of the Mothership? An expensive unit that serves no purpose.

Now that was a cheapshot on a good idea.

I can assure you a lot of people will sure be using the mothership. An expensive investment indeed, but in the right hands can easily turn the tide of a battle. The mothership's abilities alone easily compensates for it's high food and cost (Planet cracker).

Right now I see the colossus as a relatively weak unit. I can see how it works when it comes to countering mass number of units. However, the unit itself is way too vulnerable, since it can be mind controlled and attacked by both air and land units. This means the protoss unit needs to have a well rounded army in order to protect the colossus.

Although the videos currrently depicting the potential of the colossus is quite dissappointing, we never seen the power of them in "critical mass" Until then, we shouldn't speculate how good a unit is alone. One can say any unit alone on the field doesn't show their potential. Just like BC's and carriers, once in critical mass, they would wreck havoc to ground forces.

The new spread attack referred to in this thread has been taken out of the build and replaced with an attack animation that is an improved version of the old, sweeping beam. But if you are interested Lightchess, one can see the Colossus's (now) old spread attack in one of the videos released at last year's BlizzCon when they announced Zerg (the one with Kerrigan narrating in the background).

The colossi (That's what it should be right?) had the fan attack thingy that looked freaking retarted, but i think was more practical. I mean, the sweeping beam idea is way more awesome, but made less sense. If it came down to real firepower as apposed to visuals, i'd go for the fan attack.
