Not that railguns arn't cool, it just seems more fitting for a massive capital ship to have lasers.
And lasers look cool.

I have to say stay with the lasers if it were a new unit it would be fine to put on rail guns but I would always think of the BC back in the day and say "hey were did the lasers go."

yes and as fancy as it may look lasers are still more hardcore and lethal obviously.

many say it would look cooler, but IMO giving the bc rail guns would make it a mediocre capital ships compared to other sci fi capital ships.

and this is not warhammer 40k where using pistols and uuzi are badass. and i can see hardcore canon rail guns on warhammer 40k capital ships but not for starcraft 2.

Railguns are anything but mediocre. There is a reason that railguns are being looked at for being the main weapon of the navy. Lasers are only being looked at to shoot down misssiles for the very reason of their lack of force appied to the target makes them limited in damage.

Lasers cut. Railguns and other forms of cannons brute force holes in things and are capable of making MUCH bigger holes than a laser using the equivalent ammiunt of energy and can fire further. They also look cooler as REAL lasers you can only see the beam if it is scattered by dust of vapor (which reduces its effectiveness)

I COMPLETELY 100% agree with BoP on this one. Rail guns are destructive and badass. Plus, they move at supersonic speeds!

As far as i know laser can, but railguns CANT.

Technically lasers are more effective, since they are faster, renewable energy, high damage, can do many things etc. just youtube ''laser technology'' or something.

How do they do high damage? Everyone says this but I don't get it. A laser is just a lot of focused energy. All it does is use intense heat to burn through something. Does it make an explosion? No. Rail guns (to answer furrer's question) don't fire with an explosion, it used compressed air inside a tank, so yes it could be fired in space. It moves at supersonic speeds to make a huge explosion and completely owns its target.

How do lasers do more damage than that? They don't.

yes specially huge high intensity lasers can create massive explosions. most sci fi settings with laser doesn't really projects large explosions but only precise lethal none AOE damage.

but that is just some minor fact about lasers, if you watch some anime and other rare sci fi settings lasers can produce BIGGER explosions. the death star can destroy planets, and those are not small explosions.

im not saying lasers in this sci fi settings are believable, but we dont really know how far laser technology can go in real life. say a house size laser can blow up an entire city maybe. lol

That is like atomic bomb power. Lol. I think battlecruisers should stay with lasers. What kind of capital ship uses bullets or missles, and in space. That's why you don't see all the little wraiths with machine guns mowing down mutalisks in space lol (the bullets will float around for a second and hit your friendlys ). Besides, battlecruisers should be shooting lasers from turrents instead of cannons. It doesn't really make sense. Battlecruisers should be able to build turrents as a personal upgrade (Like interceptors ), so aside from the guns in front of the battlecruiser, you have battlecruisers with giant turrents on top and bottom of the battlecruiser. One for air to air, and another for air to ground.

You need to learn the difference between fact and fiction. Lasers do not create explosions unless they hit the fuel tank and ignite the fuel or if the laser hits a target specifically created to concentrate the light to heat a gas (namely air) but that only works in an atmosphere. Explosions are not the laser. they are the target destroying itself.

Railguns also do not explode but the massive kinetic energy is enough to cause whatever it hits to liquefy and get pushed away from the impact site by the shock wave.


Also railguns can be fired in space. They are an electromagnetic weapons. A large current is forced through the projectile causing a large magnetic field that pushes it forward.

I chose the lazers for consistency, battlecrusers shouldn't be that different from what they were in SC1 but i have to say that the railgun is a good idea, it'd be nice if you could get the railgun as a 3rd choice that was tremendous damage and then could pass through other units kinda like the amazon ability, what was it called? whatever. That'd be cool, but the yamato and plasma "torpedos" are kinda fun to watch, not a fan of the name Plasma Torpedos, made me think of missles.

I'd go for that.

They need SOMETHING that has railguns on it due to the sheer badassness of it. The BC or Thor are the best fits since they are the least likely to get thrown 3 miles from the recoil

im sure laser explodes. and fictional sci fi weapons sometimes can be true given time and research, and advance tech.

like a laser with UVER intense heat and energy compressed and then the moment it will hit something even on jsut plain ground will cause it to explode. im not talking about storm troopers pew pew pistol lasers but the bigger ones. even the predator mounter laser gun on his shoulder creates explosions. and starcraft is fictional and sci fi. ^^

Ok 1: ppl really need to backup the shit they are saying with sum evidence, coz most of it is bull.

2: who cares if it COULD happen or not, none of that matters - its entirely visual/asthetic/cosmetic thing. and in MY opinion railguns creating massive explosions look cooler then pew pew lasers.

no need to get into sum pointless discussion about wat does the most 'damage' coz blizzard just has a little tool which the can set the dmg from 1 to 999.... regardless of whether its a laser or a railgun or a water pistol!!
