Paying three different campaigns is OK by me. The games nowadays have much bigger content and new features that are hardly covered in one dvd. Look at games like World In Conflict or Halo Wars. And...YEAH, sure, it is also a Cash cow for Blizzard to make it more rentable in the other way. But I'd rather pay three games with about one year difference than pay a fee for Battlenet, which is something that is being still considered by Blizzard and that would really break the interest for hundreds of thousands of players. Their worst choice in my opinion. Hope they're not that too greedy.

    Yeap.

It is what they apparently say. We get the first Terran Singleplayer Title with all regular units we've seen till now in the cinematics for all three races. On battlenet, all three races are playable in the very same RTS style.

We just have to wait for the other two expansion to follow on the unfolding of the story and get acess to new styles of gameplay mixed with the old ones. Just like you said. We'll also have the acess to the old units we had on the original Starcraft (on battlenet) like Dragoon's, Scout...etc)

Maybe the fourth DVD (if Blizzard decides to make that surprise) will be the "expansion set" for Starcraft 2, with 30 new missions for the fourth race ...

I think Blizzard will just need maybe three more years after the release of the last DVD to bring a campaign with the fourth race. Blizzard is thinking about creating a fourth race (a playable one). Maybe they are working on the fourth race right now ...

  6. They said they're doing concept art and possibly gameplay ideas.

I believe Blizzard is just planning to get more money through splitting it up. If they space out how far apart the games are released, they will make gamers who are waiting for the later zerg/protoss versions cave in and buy the first part of the 3 games, and then buy the next versions once they come out anyways.

They can make the campaigns as long and as epic as they want, but splitting up the 3 races and having to buy all 3 to access everything is ridiculous. If the games are over $25 each, then Blizzard will make a killing in profits, since people will most likely buy all 3 versions.

  8. Not this again ... Did you just find out about the split too? It's called an expansion.

the thing is most expansions aren't 'stand-alone' products. Theres this thing i hate, its when expansions are announced before the game is released. I think you should try to fit as much as you can in one, make the expansions later to expand on what you've already made, then blizzard announces two 'expansions' before the beta of vanilla, two.

  10. Thank God for that!

Expansions are planned before the original release in most cases. Just because the developers are sneaky about it doesn't the ones who are open and honest should be looked down on.

At least Blizzard isn't some slimey company that spits out poorly made games just to get cash from it.
Of course Blizzard wants to make money. That's what every company wants!
The only difference is that Blizzard really tries to make good and enjoyable games for us to play.

Around 50 bucks a year for a game isn't much at all.

This format of campaign-based game & expansions is kinda similar to another RTS, Dawn of War (DOW). The original game only had a campaign for one of the four sides, the Space Marines. The problem with this set-up was that public online play led a bunch of "Space Marine newbs" who only playing as Space Marines and kinda stifled the uniqueness of each online match. Of course DOW was just released and there were not any veteran fans of the series like you will probably have with Starcraft, but there may be a larger Terran-only population for newer players as they finish the Terran campaign and start online play with the side they are good with. Of course Blizzard is doing it right by allowing all sides to be played in the multiplayer. For DOW, you can't play certain sides if you haven't purchased and installed the expansion packs, such as Winter Assault unlocks the Imperial Guardsmen for online play. Other than that, I look forward to purchasing WOL whenever they release it.

    Now I'm off to dinner.

  15. No one.. I repeat.. no one gets an accurate preparation for multiplayer through the campaign in ANY RTS.. It's all in the people's heads.. If they only would realize this maybe they wouldn't play that once race so much.
