My Thoughts on the Trilogy

Kinda explains it, so there will be just as many missions than, starcraft + broodwar = 60 total
starcraft 2 will have 3, so instead of 30 * 2, its 30 * 3, in essence its really the same amount, cept were getting TWO expansions, so don't know why everyone is trying to stress that were getting so much more than in the original.

To me we are getting much more than the original. Because there is no inter-mission activity apart from a few short movies to play. Here the outside the mission part seems pretty extensive. That's the part I'm really excited about. Sure it's the same amount of missions as each SC installment as said above. Approx 30 each time. But the intermission stuff makes it all the worthwile.

Plus I think the multiplayer will be much more beefed up then SC and BW was. So a win in both parts of the game.

And I just think of it as 3 different chapters of the story. Be it a computer game or a novel. Same principle. Can't have all 3 parts here at once.

Ok, my point: More sales if trilogies are released one by one.

If you think I'm wrong then instead of posting "i disagree", why not give a detailed opinion on why?

If you're talking about sales, think about it like this. How many people who bought StarCraft1 bought BroodWar? It's pretty much the exact same situation.

However, broodwar IS an expansion which added units and new campaigns for all three threes that links together. Buying broodwar is also a must if you want to play online against other broodwar players since practically no one would still be playing the original SC1.

This is a trilogy, all three storyline probably has little to no link to the others. If you buy terran campaign you can still play with other races too which is a key contribution not having to buy all three. If anything is going to have the same amount of sales as the three trilogies, it'd be an expansion of the three trilogies.

That's the same for the trilogy. It's StarCraft2 original with Terran, and then two expansions with Zerg and Protoss. The new expansions will add new units for all three races and will continue the campaigns with the other two races. Buying the two expansions will be a must if you want to play online against other StarCraft2 players because no-one would still be playing the original.

Would buying the zerg and protoss trilogy add any new units and mechanics to terran? Nope (well for now)
The only reason why you would want to buy more than one trilogy is to know the storyline of the others. As absurd as this fact might sound, there is a good deal of people that would rather read the storyline or watch it on youtube than buy it.

No offense though, but this part makes no sense at all. I get that you're trying to described the other two trilogies as an expansion, but why would you need it to play online against other people? I recall reading on an article that you can still play multiplayer with the other two races and still have the full feature of SC2 (with the obvious difference of you not having the campaign of the other two). So let me try to understand, so the only way to play online is to buy all three trilogy? Why would people not play even if they have one of the three trilogy that has full multiplayer capabilities?

Yeah, Wings of Liberty will come with the full feature of SC2. But Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void are NOT regular SC2, but expansions with new units and abilities etc. Just like how people with Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos can't play vs people that play The Frozen Throne. A majority of Starcraft 2 players will be playing Legacy of the Void in the future, as it will be the most polished and fleshed out version of SC2, basically.

People with Starcraft vanilla don't complain about having to buy Broodwar in order to play Broodwar.
Only buying Wings of Liberty is the equivalent of only buying Starcraft, or Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos etc.

Please do not excessively quote or quote the post above your own.

But in the end, Wings of Liberty is all you need to play multiplayer against anyone, even those with all three trilogies?

No. Think of it like this; Wings of Liberty is SC2 original, vanilla. Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void are expansions, just like Broodwar was, only this time there's two expansions instead of one. WoL (Wings of Liberty) will let you battle other people with WoL, but that's it. You can't play Starcraft Broodwar with only the original, right?

I don't know if you need WoL in order to play HotS or LotW though.

Wrong. GMG pretty much covered it already, but the Zerg and Protoss components will add more units, just as BroodWar added more units for StarCraft1.

I used the same wording you used to talk about BroodWar and StarCraft1.

Basically, the Zerg and Protoss components are expansions. The only way they differ to conventional expansions is that instead of having Terran, Zerg and Protoss campaigns in the original, the first expansion and the second expansion, they have Terran in the original, Zerg in the first expansion and Protoss in the second expansion. It's just like StarCraft1, only it has a second expansion and the campaigns have been racially split across the three components.

Ok, screw this. I'm officially upset at Blizzard now.

I thought that each of the trilogy is just a game of its own and can play against any other trilogies with the only lost of you not buying all three is missing out on the campaign. This has crossed my line, I'll just buy Wings of Liberty if all three trilogies costs the same.

I hope you are aware of that only buying WoL is the equivalent of buying Starcraft but not Broodwar (BW representing HotS and LotV). You'll be missing out a lot. Remember that these games will be released with about more than 12 months in between. Lots of multiplayer things will be balanced and changed too, it's not just another campaign per box.

How can you get upset at Blizzard for making expansion packs?

Funny though that Blizzard keep saying that all units must have a clear function with as little overlap as possible, yet they plan to add new units with each expansion, that's at least 2 new units a race on top of the already heavy 14(?) a race. I doubt there'll be empty unit roles in WOL that could be occupied via the expansions.

@ visom. LOL! What, you're upset that Blizzard's making two expansions for StarCraft2? Were you upset with them when they made the StarCraft1 expansion? Or the WarCraftII or WarCraftIII expansions? What other games do you play? Were you pissed off when their expansions came out?

In my opinion, Blizzard announced this in the worst way possible. They should have just talked about StarCraft2 as having two expansions, and that each part had one of the races campaigns, and not have gone on about how StarCraft2's now a trilogy and about how the campaigns have been split. It's been misinterpreted far too many times.

I totally agree with Itza. Blizzard didn't explain it well enough.

Anyways, appearantly, the army customization for at least the Terran campaign will be quite immense. You don't just buy upgrades and unlock the units that you can find in the multiplayer aspect of the game. Wraiths, Goliaths and Vultures among many other units will be purchasable in the campaign which I think will greatly increase the longivity and replayability of the campaign. I myself think it's totally worth it to buy all three games ONLY for the campaigns.

^ A VERY good read if you're confused or just want general information about the coming campaigns and stuff.

    Oh, and:

So I'm not entitled to my own opinion? I can't be upset with this, I can't be happy with that?

So I'm supposed to bend down on my knees, kiss Blizzard's feet and be happy with everything Blizzard does?
All I'm going to say, ItzaHexGor, is stop comparing the three trilogies with the expansions. Three trilogies each have a campaign for ONE race, the expansion has a storyline of ALL the races.
I don't care what you say, but my psychology is "i'd rather buy an expansion which has the story of all three races, than to buy each individually", however it's a bit more complexed than that, I'm merely summing it up.

Before I end my post here, the REAL point of my original post explaining how Blizzard is passively milking us (yea deny it) whether intentional or unintentional, if they sell the 1 of the three trilogies each 12 months rather than all at once, and I thank you for missing the point and taking me away from that subject.

because the overall sc2 campaign is so big it cannot fit in one disc. they can but that would make the campaign way too short. and i dont want that.

yeah blizzard requires us to pay more but their making sc2 much much better (longer, epic, more movies, etc). so you still get what you pay for.

Each trilogy has 30hours of gameplay, sure I would get my money's worth, but not my expectation's worth.

    It's like....it's like...uh....well.. IT'S LIKE EATING A PIZZA

I'd rather have a small slice of pizza with all the ingredients on it that I bought for $10, than a large whole pizza for the same price that's missing the tomato sauce and the cheese topping. (I could get my money's worth, but not my expectation's worth)
I honestly could think of no better way to describe my feelings for the trilogy than with this cheesy (no pun intended) analogy.
