Mutas vs Vikings

howdy, first time poster! lol.

admittedly im only silver/gold ranked, but in most cases if i see vikings (if they outnumber my muta's or are relatively equal in numbers) i just return my muta's back to base and by the time they get back i can have a couple corrupters up ready to poon face on the vikings, generally ive got a couple queens back at each expo as well so i can heal up a couple of hurting units if i do have to wait a bit... simple fact, see air units, build corrupters.

If terran is investing in Vikings that is quite a bit of resources for something that is only good vs air, beat him on the ground.

 

mutas dominate vikings... Why someone would get vikings to counter mutalisks blinds me. Thors and marines is the way to go.

In my experience, mutas > vikings. In game unit counter list seems to agree with me as well.

 

Vikings being anti-air doesn't mean they have to counter everything that's not walking
They counter corruptors/broodlords/carriers/voidrays, the heavy stuff. Mutas do about equal damage per second with vikings(9dmg/1.5sec with +1 per hit upgrade against 2*6dmg/2sec with +1/hit upgrade so 1 point of armor counters the upgrade completely}, have same armor(0) and only 5 less hp, so while the vikings will get the first shot and on a 1vs1 a viking will win against a mutalist with barely any hp left, mutas do ~40% more dmg to groups if you add up their bounces, so passing that first shot any group of vikings will lose to any equal number of mutalisks in bulk.

Unless if you could anticipate the fight and micro the vikings in a way that they surround the mutas and not be that close to 1 another but that seems a little too much to me. Some pro who wanted to win could do it, but I don't think I have the skill to, lol

 

If your having problems vs mass vikings just research FlyingLing at your evolution chamber, then watch as your speedlings rape them in the air.

 

hahahaha xD yeah right but ive tried a match in a testing map where i had
8 Vikings -vs- 9 Mutalisks

and the mutalisks won..... so yeah mutas counter vikings

btw 8 vikings cost the same amount of resources as 9 mutalisks

 

One of my placement matches was the battle mass vikings vs mass mutas. I won due to the fact that mutas have that splash damage which is great. As someone mentioned above 1 viking wins 1 mutalisk but in big numbers mutas dominate

 

yeah they really do.... actaully its kinda like the voidrays xD

 

mutas own vikings no question. you should be happy when your opponent gets vikings. a comparable group of mutas will destroy a comparable group of vikings.
