You're forgetting that Windows/Mac OS and the battle.net client also eat memory. Also, the game supports over 12 players as far as I know. Further, those unit portraits and other eye candy are quite high res now. I think 2 gb RAM in your system is plenty, but certainly not laughable.

  2. For Vista, that's understandable. For other OS, I'd say it's a little high but, again, this is the beta. Memory leaks are the easiest thing for a program to be buggy in. 2GB is very understandable in this situation.

But, for the final release, Dawn Of War 2 requires about that much but has less units so it could still be possible.

  3. So, I finally took the time to read the actual Chinese site and it says nothing about a 9800GT. It only says that the low-end of the configuration will run on very low PCs and the high-end configuration will need very powerful PCs.

Wow ... Way to fail, StarCraftWire.net. I believed the source because you had nothing to do with it but still you messed it up by misquoting.

^ Indeed. I read that a few times already. Just as a referrence to other articles.

Also: there is a Sims 3? Wow, never thought I could ignore the series that well. Only cool thing you could do was set the house on fire. Haha. A sofa near a fireplace magically goes up in flames.

  9. Yeah, we've known the specifications were wrong for a while now. It wasn't the Chinese site's fault either. It was SCW.net's fault. The irony, though, is that I believed the source more than I usually would be SCW.net had nothing to do with it :D

False alarm on that. The Chinese site is reporting that Blizzard told them to remove the 9800GT comment shortly after putting it up but the webmaster maintains that Blizzard did actually tell them that.

9800GT for medium? I hope everyone smelt that heap of BS!

  12. There was never any doubt that the final game would run better than that. For a buggy beta, though, that's some what understandable.

According to Blizzard. SC2 will run fine on $700-$900 pc's. If that's the case. All I need to do is upgrade my graphics card and add another gig of memory, and I'm set.

  14. My 700$ PC from 2005 will run StarCraft 2 fine. It maxes far more demanding RTS games so I have no fear. Still, I'll be upgrading, but, the point is, that estimate is waaaaaaay too high.

9800 for MEDIUM settings is absolutely ridiculous. Christ, a Geforce 9800 plays CRYSIS on high settings with 2x antialias and very acceptable framerates at 1280x1024. My estimate: a Geforce 7600 for medium (it was confirmed that it would run on the ancient Radeon 9800 (albeit at lowest settings). Chances are an 8600 will play it mostly on high, and I expect any card above that will completely max it out. A 9800 for an RTS game is just overkill (with the exception of World in Conflict), even for an unoptimized beta. Consider that Dawn of War II has sharper graphics than SC2, but an old Geforce 7800 maxes that game out. What will be more interesting is to see what sort of processing power StarCraft 2 requires.

Guys just an idea for those of you on a tight budget. If you don't have the time to piece together a $700.00 computer an idea would be to go to bestbuy and get one of their Alienwares. It exceeds these requirements, and costs about $950.00 if you get the warrant (which I recommend.). I bought one there for my new apartment and it works fine. Ran DoW 2 very smoothely and other games as well.

Alienwares make great Pcs. But $950 to run StarCraft? Is that really necessary? StarCraft2 will be the most modern game I'll be playing, and as such, I'm hoping that a $500 build (CND, not US, because I currrently live in Canada) will pretty much max it out. The other games I want to play are less demanding: Halo 2 and Half Life 2.

Im still kinda hoping my geforce 6600 will be able to run SC2 at a good frame rate. Blizz said before that the FX series is like the minimum, but you usually want to be 2 generations ahead of that.

And I always thought alienware was pricy, you got the specs on that thing? It doesnt matter to be because I cant get another computer untill college, but still.
