hmm...interesting idea, I was thinking about it letting you shot at buildings out of site, but your idea is better for balance. Its pretty realistic as well, real life rockets use sensors to detect and hit unseen units. This would be a great defence for Terran; for every tower, have about 2 or 3 of these rocket launchers. That would protect your base from most attacks.

I don't think the increased range should be too great. If it is, the game should make the ability have a large cool down. The sensor towers range is decent, so being able to use the ability multiple times could make your base nearly impossible for even the largest armies to destroy.

Im thinking these homing, or guided if you will, missles will cost 25 to 50 mana so they cant be spammed and dont deal TOO much damage, maybe 50? or 75?

And the longer range is only for the guided missles,so its not that big of a problem.

But most likely players won't have just one unit, more like 4-5 units at a single tower. So whenever a tower picks up anything, they will just randomly select any units within the oncoming ground and have all 5 units attack; causeing 250 damage before they can fight back.

Also, would it have a AoE as well? Or just hurt 1 unit, since the AoE sounds more realistic. I think that the unit should only have enough power to use the move twice before having to charge up again.

Or it could not cost mana, and just be on a timer s you cant deal too much damage too fast.

I have a feeling the mana/power consumtion would be more likely since that is what all other units use. I still see this as a very powerful defence option for terran, especually if placed on a cliff so enemies would have a harder time killing it. Aslo, now that enemy units aren't revealed when attacking you, it will be harder for players to determine where the fireing units are located.

The only issue I see is that since they can see where the sensors range stops, so they could see if there were any holes in the defence.

I also think that the unit should be next to the tower for it to use its ability. That way, people won't be able to use it, even if they are extremely far away.

fire can not burn without oxygen, therefore napalm will not work in space, plus it fricken cold in space. To attack targets in fog of war is IMBA because you can just build a radar next the enemy base attack with your idea of a homing missile and its all over

Ok, i can see what you mean, the Sensor Tower has a small range around it, heck maybe they even have to connect(make the rocket launcher become sort of like an add-on to the tower) and only than can it use this ability. I still think it can be a normal attack on a longer cooldown, lets say that its normal attack is 20 damage, make it deal that much damage per guided missle, but the cooldown between shots is similar to the siege tank?

Well not really, if we take what i said, that the unit needs to become and add-on, and deals 20 damage per shot with a siege tank's cooldown its not that bad, we can have a limit to how many of these units can attach themselves to a single sensor tower.

Furthermore, it takes a lot of preparation, and its only a static attack, it just forces you to attack it. Im thinking of not making this unit too durable in battle.

interesting ideas, making the unit as an add-on ability.

Maybe that could be its special technique, attackment to the sensor tower, and its other ability need the attachment as a prequesite. That would balance out the range issues and make sure the abilities are fair.

this conversation is turning out some very good ideas

i like the idea, but it will kinda overlap the turrets. Plus it'll get little too bulky if you play the island maps

thats the thing we only have ATA turrets, and the bunker isnt that great for me, takes a lot of money and supply to act as a normal tower.

This is kinda of an advanced bunker that costs money and supply but is a bit more special and its more of mid-game, late-game defense, something that an exclusively defensive race should have.

Then there will be no purpose of the bunker. One of the many goals Blizzard are trying to achieve is make sure that every building and unit have a purpose and will used no matter what race you're fighting or how far you are in the battle. In starcraft, almost all terran players who won against a protoss player win because the majority they use armor units. And against zerg, it was infantry

the bunker will definately be more durable than if you use the MRS to defend your base, i dont think you should be able to defend your base only with MRSs, but they are a nice edition to your overall defense.

The bunker will be able to take a lot more damage than the MRS will be able to, the MRS just adds a little more firepower, not actual defense. It wont be able to take much damage on its own.

just bring back the predator or a new ATA air unit and terran is good to go.

Hmmm.. I'm thinking a mobile rocket system is a pretty good idea.Just alittle ideas to thrown in to help.
Im thinking that the vehicle should have a powerful attack because I'm thinking of using the "building weapons" system for it.

So the vehicle could only use the missiles when you build them, like the Reaver or Carrier. Also, since the predators gone, it could receive the intercept ability. The drawback would be a slowdown in movement speed due to the fact that the missiles need to lock onto the target to fire.I didn't want it to be stationary because it would seem to much like the siege tank.

The intercept ability(for people who don't know or don't remember) was the ability to shoot down other enemy fire. I was thinking, since it would be pretty hard to build the rockets during the intercept mode, how about just letting it become any ordinary unit, without having to build its rockets to be easier on the player. If you don't like this idea and prefer the unit to be a "build weaponry" unit all the way, post about it :D. I'm thinking the appearance would be similar to a mix of the old Thor tank concept and this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_artillery

-Posted this somewhere else, but I found this thread so it belongs here :]

Yeah, building things doesnt sound too terran like though.

They main thing imo, for this unit, is the ability to shoot what the sensor tower sees in the fog of war, and the other main thing is AoE GTA attack.
