My base was solid glass with waterfalls flowing off the sides except for the door even BEFORE spiders could climb. You jelly? Also, shrooms grow. You just need low light.

I like the idea of Minecraft and I also don't like that I have no idea what to do with Minecraft, so it kinda sucks :/

I like going to the bottom of the earth, picking a direction and mining in a straight line until I hit lava

So there's a new mob set to appear in 1.8, and it looks like it can interact with the environment:

That may be the scariest thing I've ever seen. Second to shrink-wrapped Bacon. Seriously, how are you supposed to open that stuff?

The pre-release has been... um... released, so if you want to give it a spin, now is the time. I must say that the redesigned biomes look really freaking cool, and the new lighting effects are also great. Food took me a while to get used to, but you have to hold the right mouse button for a few seconds to eat.

It's cool, but there are still A LOT of kinks, fyi.

Also, if you want the new stuff (towns, new biome design, strongholds, etc) to show up, you have to visit new chunks, ie ungenerated. You can do this by going far enough from old ones in an old world, or just make a new world.

    I suggest a new world.

Still not going to make a new world. There's waaaaaay to many of these mineshafts. WTB fix.

Uhhh. It's a pre-release, I was saying do that when 1.8 officially launches.

What do you mean, WTB fix? Are you saying that you would rather have the code write over terrain data in old worlds, essentially re-generating the world and potentially destroying all of your creations?

no, he wants to have less mineshafts on new maps first. It's one of the new dungeon variations.

NPC villages look really cool (despite not having actual NPC's), though I wish they had some better lighting.

Everything makes more sense. And the only things new I've found are a jungle biome and an abandoned mine. The abandoned mines are a lot bigger than I expected them to be.

I've taken up residence in an NPC village. They're quite cool, with a nice variation between buildings. It is annoying that they don't really deal properly with uneven terrain.

Also, endermans drop weird gem-like thingies. No clue what they are for.

I remember at one point they dropped diamonds instead of enderpearls. What freaked me out was that it was always 1-2 of em, and I concluded that we were taking the eyes off their corpses.

I hope they use the pearls in same way to create a ward of sorts to keep Endermen away. They're not terribly annoying for the most part, but they have to potential to totally ruin adventure maps (eg mess up redstone puzzles, move unmovable walls, etc)
