Actually, think that France, Germany and Holland are the most dnb-ized countries in all of Europe. In eastern Europe pop and folk are pretty much in power. :p The Scandinavian countries are the most metal-oriented. Canada and the US are mostly Rap, thrash metal and tribute bands for good European metal. I have no idea what's in Russia though... :-\

No, UK is dnb capitol! Holland is very much Pop, Rap, R&B and trance oriented. DnB is just a big underground subculture.

Good, but I wasn't trying to imply that. I even wasn't trying to imply that goths listen to powermetal. Its more a metalhead thing I guess. And I'm glad your not emo ;D

Western Russia is similar to the Scandinavian countries, they have some....interesting symphonic metal....I dunno about Eastern though.....Russia as a whole has a fetish for classical music though.

So am I. So am I.

You're never truly metal unless you can admit to listening to Power Metal.

And it seems that this is the most popular thread in the entire "multimedia, entertainment and arts" section. Oh, joy!

I'm glad that I ain't metal, because most of the sub-genres; power, thrash, heavey, death, black, etc are fucking dead. Nothing new happens, the only bands I really listen to are the bands who musically exist between the standard genres.

Well, there are still some newer ones, but he main genres are dying. The thing that annoys me most about some metalheads in my neighborhoofd is that 75% is fucking arrogant about it and doesn't even try to look around for other bands.

yeah i know what you mean..

the main problem in my country.. or province i should say.. or maybe.. city.. anyway.. in my life..

there's a local band that is getting huge in hardcore/death and they are VERY good live.. I saw them twice.. they are great.. they play with cephalic carnage and such bands..

and this band is pretty recent.. they have like 2 albums so far.. hmm the 2nd album might not be released yet.. i just don't follow them..

soo.... whats happening is.. every kids who listen to metal goes crazy for this band and they forget where it comes from.. and all they listen to is this band (Despîsed Icon) and Quo Vadis probably..

the problem is these new bands have no inovation.. these metalhead kids just love them because its heavier than the old stuff..

everytime I can, I show them how their stuff isnt heavy at all.. and how amazing breakcore is... hehe they can't stand it..

Its a local band, I even actually know some members and the old singer is a friend of mine. They are signed to Listenable Records and are quite inovating. But I know what you're getting at. We don't have good bands here, our country is more gothic based (within temptation, after forever and stuff) but kids tend to listen to shit like Slipknot, etc and don't look further.

The new Megadeth album is awesome, and we can just listen to Kreator, Sodom and Testament forever. Also, Slayer is living proof that some things never change, even if we become tired of it. Lots of Metalcore bands are turning all Thrashy on us, Trivium being the most obvious example, and Lamb Of God as runner-up. Avenged sevenfold didn't turn to Thrash, they kinda picked up Guns 'n' Roses' annoying little sound.

Death Metal is far from what it's name suggests. Brutal Tech Death bands like Nile, Necrophagist, Cryptopsy, Martyr and Quo Vadis are in their prime. Even straight up death is still active, with Cannibal Corpse, Deicide and Vader, to name a few, still going.

Black Metal, in a way, is dying. But only the old, underproduced, low-tech sound is being replaced by a more atmospheric, engineered sound. Mainstream bands like Drudkh, Dimmu Borgir (don't really like them that much) Dark Funeral and Funeral Myst are giving the genre a breath of fresh air. Not to mention that 90% of Black Metal bands are completely underground and are destined to stay that way and true to their original sound forever...

Power Metal's still there, some bands getting cheezier, some getting more serious...

Are you kidding? Trivium turned more nu-metal than ever. Lamb of God used to be good but they are starting to get crappier and more cliché with each album.

Cannibal Corpse and Deicide still going? Each new album is a big parody on the old ones. If want good old death stay with Vader, Death, Obituary and Suffocation. The rest sucks like [insert filthy words]

The whole engineered atmospheric sounds is from the end of the 90's, at this moment the black metal scene is actually far from dying (I know I stated otherwise a few posts back, but I decided to come back on that statement), with a bunch of crossovers between death, math and electronic music to keep the scene going. Check out Mörk Gryning, a great crossover between black and death.

Trivium Nu-metal? They're thrash now, man. They may not be good thrash, but they're miles ahead of anything like Korn. Listen to any of their 3 singles released from the Crusade so far and you'll see nothing but an ordinary thrash song and 2 classic metal/chiche/Iron Maiden-type songs. They may be weird but they lack anything in common with Nu.

I don't like Cannibal Corpse or Deicide, but from what I've heard they sound the same as they've always sounded, so that's why I said that they're still going (nowhere). And there's more to death than the classics. Technical Death Metal is a very good sub-genre, whether you like it or not. Nile and Necrophagist may not be your style of death, but they are widely regarded as two of the best Tech Death bands out there today and they're still not slowing down, unlike CC and Deicide.

If by a crossover between black and death you mean Blackened Death, the only two bands I've listened to are Akercocke and Behemoth. I'll check out Mörk Gryning, the name sounds evil enough to be good ;D.

Back to the dying thing, Nu-Metal is almost dead (just a little more until Slipknot break up; I'll be so happy! ;)). Melodic Death is on the verge of collapse due to unoriginality. Metalcore is also fading away because it no longer has any more melodeath riffs to rip off. Not much else to say, really...

Anyone here like Opeth? Their guitarist quit recently and I'm worried about their well-being...
