If you actualy go to the SC2 site and look at the warp rays attack animation it actually does change and it is very similar to hillz sketch.

it's really not that much, the beam just gets fuzzier

Already the warp ray beam does almost exactly what you guys are describing

on the main site, on the action shot, look closesly when the warp ray first opens its petals and fires,
the beam looks pretty weak, just a skinny, slightly fuzzy line.

very quickly, the second energy stream is added and there is a big improvement in the beam, it is brighter, fatter and more crackly

finally, after a while it adds the third and final stream. The beam gets brighter (near white) , more zappy (could use a little more zap) and bigger

I say it looks pretty good

I think it is fine the way blizzard has it on the SC2 site. In my opinion if people want to know what stage the warp ray's beam is on and they cant notice the graphic difference they can take a second and look at the petals of the warp ray.

remember that the main site vids are scaled down and so in real gameplay everything will be bigger and hopefully more noticeable too

If anything i say they make the jump from 2nd to 3rd stage attack more noticeable, thats where its lacking. Three need to be brighter and more zappy

1st to 2nd is quite noticable = skinny line ---> bigger, brighter, zappy

but in the end, it isnt a major important thing, like Kerwyn said, u can always just look at the petals

After looking at the site 1st to 2nd the beam becomes brighter and staticy while 2nd to 3rd the beam starts to pulse. So in my opinion after you spend a little time with it it will become obvious.

Remember that you will need to see other stuff too. If you make it TOO bright it will clutter the whole Battlefield. Maybe they could make it even more obvious on the Warpray itslef in wich "stage" it currently is.

haha, like anything in starcraft is realistic? battles between humans with massive mechs against intelligent aliens on space platforms, where crystal and vespene gas are the major resources

but i agree, i think that it looks fine how it is
good idea Unentschieden, maybe the actual ship structure could change a bit more as multiple energy streams are added

but, "a bit" wouldnt be noticed! Its harder to see if it have a few moving parts that if it gets brighter.
And "cluttering the whole battlefield". Yeah like if 12 siege tanks firing at once doesnt do that too!

yes I agree with you Gah the warpray's ray is perfect the way it is but I have a question. how the heck would the structure or the ship gain in mass while it is exponentially putting out more power? will the fins that help mannever it spread out? Maybe we may never know this IS Blizzard we are talking about. I doubt that Blizzard will do it because it would be all for show thats all and they aren't into that to much don't you think the excrushiatingly detailed maps is enough? I do. And it does not matter if the Battle field getting cluttered up anyways. You as a strategist should take full advantage of that and use it against the enemy making it harder for them to accuratly maneuver their forces against you and maybe attack a weekpoint in their defence and thus making their efforts to halt your advance crumble.

I know that Hillzagold, im just jokingly pointing out that DontHate said that changing the beam would make it look UN-REALISTIC

And @ Darth, It doesnt have to change mass, It could have the energy stream fins open even wider as a way of better controlling the beam... or we could see sections of the ship shifting as it increases energy levels or other fins that emerge as to help stabilize the ship in its most powerful state

but in the end, i think the beam is alright and also like Darth days, Blizzard is probably not going to be making big changes to units just for show
