Lockdown is going to be even better now in SC2 because Karune just confirmed that unit abilities will have smart casting just like in Wc3.

thank god for smart casting. its annoying when you accidentally select more than one and waste 100 energy

I know....made it so difficult for everyone. Now vs  zerg, select like 8-9 science vessels, and become irradiate happy...

I doubt Lockdown will be smart-casting though. All smart-casting spells in WC3 have low mana cost and are spells that are good on more or less all units. I can't see Lockdown being a low-mana spell, considering that it removes a unit from the battle, so I can't see the Lockdown being a smart-cast spell. And, even if it is, it can't be very efficient.

There was no cooldown. There was "Do you have enough energy... or not?"

Starcraft is all about micromanagement to make the most of your units. It is impossible for a ghost to auto-lockdown anything since the AI has no idea what will do more damage to your forces. 2 ghosts might lockdown 4 wraiths leading an assualt, but then the 4 BC's behind them will kill everything off. There is too much strategy involved for anything in starcraft to be automatic if it is used against the enemy.

To answer the question, yes the mothership will be locked down, But I think only after 3 lock down missiles. 2 will target each of it's plasma cannons, and then the 3rd one will automatically hit it's main hull, making the MS useless for a minute. If only 1 or 2 hit, then some of the motherships's guns will be disabled, but the MS itself will still be able to move or fly away.

If lockdown isn't in Starcraft 2, I'm sure the Terran will get some cool new toy to make us Protoss players weep.

Does anyone know if therell be lockdown in sc2? I mean it would be relly cool 2 lockdown thors or motherships and wipe them all out without taking any damage. It dosent look like ghosts will have it, but maybe some other unit?

Good idea. But if the lockdown comes back, I don't believe we can use it against the mothership and the thor. They are so huge that the game will consider them as structures, not units.

from what we know,it wont be in (though this might change). ghosts already have too many special abilities and giving it to other units would be imbalanced, because that unit (suposing its a ground unit) would be of maximun tier 2 and then would be easily massable (spelling?). lets say for example, the cobra(the unit more suited to have it for its lack of abilities and because it affects the kind of units he is good at countering) would be just crazy.everybody would mass cobras and the only thing you could do is mass organic units (the zerg wouldnt have a problem) giving too many problems to terrans and even more to protoss.

Well if im using Protoss Race i really hate the Lock down, my freinds why because, i spend more minerals to create a Protoss Carrier, and they will lock it down and kill my Mighty Protoss Carrire, without any fight :) :( sadly, but its really good against enemy flyers, but not for the Zerg its useless :) right :)
