Zeferint on US-West, I also have an acc on US-East but i forgot the info, I play on west though. I'm pretty bad since i haven't played in awhile but willing to play with you guys once I get my desktop back. For those who play on East I can check up on the info for my east account and see if we can hook up with some games too.

 

I was inspired to play SC/BW again after a long spell with the Civilization franchise, thanks to the news of SC2 coming out. Right now I suck big time, as I am extremely rusty, but it is fun.

I will be joining you guys on b.net in about 2 days. I finally decided to buy myself a new version of Starcraft, and it will be delivered by mail, so I won't even have to leave the house in this terrible weather we are having here. I want to get back in shape again for Starcraft 2.

My race is Zerg at the moment. I was just playing some games against the CPU, and I have come to the conclusion that I am in pretty bad shape. Maybe some more practice is needed. Any suggestions for that besides reading the whole starcraft compendium?

 

A few people here can confirm that I'm far from being a good player but my suggestions are:

• aim for ~20 workers on minerals, 3 on gas
• learn the hotkeys - you don't need to learn all of them, but the ones you use regularly
• have a basic skeleton of how you will build up your groups - I usually go like this [0-nexus, 1-6-gateway, 7-9-robo/stargate] - obviously for Zerg it is Hatchery all the way so you could create unit groups as well which I'm not fond of because they get killed and I have to memorise every time I create a new group

• scout and decide whether to take the initiative or follow your opponent - either way, you should have fixed strategies with fixed combinations of units, like a) DT+Corsair, b) Dragoon+HT, etc. for Protoss
• know roughly which units excel in certain situations (e.g., Hydra is not a good choice against HT)

These are only my observations combined with my opinion, but I think I made the concept clear.
