On the subject of widescreens. They could actually be detrimental depending on your map location and camera orientation as you can see more to the sides than the top and bottom, so somone can sneak up from those places more easily, and you might not see all of your base. For an RTS, a more square monitor would most likley be a better idea.

In FPS games though, the added peripheral vision is a significant advantage. (if you don't believe me, play your fav FPS for an hour then cover the sceen edges and play another hour.)

However, are third party macros allowed in sc2???

They do not allow such macros for wow and are kinda strict about it =/

Maybe this is a silly question, but how could you even tell if someone was using macros against you?

Can't you get somewhat of the same effect by using a standard 4:3 monitor and changing display settings? I can bump my resolution to something like 1920x1200. That is a widescreen format.

both macros and a widescreen offer advantages, I think they make a difference but not huge to the general populace. For the macros I think its a little much to do, but even at that, what supremely good macros could you do to make the game soo much more advantageous? I cant really think of much, maybe like a macro of selecting all your production buildings and queuing the units to build while you are at the same time microing your army in attack mode.

I don't believe macros are unfair, but it makes you look bad, if i decide to attend a tourney i will look like a scrub using macros. Its saying, that you need something extra than what the game already gives you...

Reminds me the time i went to WCG qualifiers for CS1.6, and I saw this nerd with a gamer glove!!! my team destroyed his, and other gamers were bashing him throughout his whole attendance... I think he quit cuz he was given the famous nickname "glovenerd".

If you were one of the BEST? OK you can do whatever you want. Otherwise you just look silly

widescreens, is definitely not unfair cuz everyone has them.

A widescreen does not cost much, and if you can afford a pc that runs sc2 well, your can afford a widescreen to :p

But its normal for players that loose, to find excuses. Its human nature to have something to blame ;)

From price checking (my dad dislikes widescreens), widescreens actually cost less than 4:3 monitors of around the same size...

Sure, macros and widescreen can actually help but I think skill level still determines who wins the game.

    Widescreens?

I was of the understanding SC2 didn't have support for those yet. My 15.6 inch laptop has to play on a reduced size. Perhaps it's just my particular size laptop screen, but I know I'm not the only one upset about it.
