i've seen replays with fungal growth acting on mutas, at least.

Hm, I had that early-muta-problem, too.

    XtA units available are:
    - Hydralisk
    - Mutalisk
    - Corupter
    - Queen (in the defence at least)

Plus Fungal Growth (spell) and the spine crawler (building)

As the thread is about mass mutas, the queen and spinecrawlers don't work. There are more of defence only, anyway.

I did not test Fungal Growth on mass mutas, but in my opinion Corupters don't work if the numer of mutas is just too big.

    So the only ways are:
    - mass hydras
    - more mutas
    - better micro if you have almost the same number of mutas

In my opinion that is a standard zerg problem: anti air!
I lost so many games just because I did not have a good anti air in the early game.

    1. you still need mutas to chase (if you want)
    2. mass lots of hydras they'd kill all sh*tloads of mutas before they have hydras within their range
    3. broodlords, make about 10 or more, these are the perfect bait, make sure hydras and infestors are burrowed, unburrow, fungal, then they'd they'd all be down in secs, use the broodlords to decimate his base

    Your base.
Mass Hydra always works all the way from SC classic. Not sure why you would want to count them out. It doesn't take to long to throw down a den.

Contrary to unpopular opinion, I'm not making **** up ;)

You want to use it in conjunction with something, but fungal growth does hit air and is very good vs mutas. It isn't simply a cost effect damage tool, but it also locks them down long enough for your hydras to run in and kill them (otherwise the opponent will just perform hit and runs on you).

^ All right, then we have the perfect mass muta counter. :)

Hydralisk + Infesters with Fungal Growth. Sounds pretty good to me, what you explained there, KHaYMaN.

Also, research and use burrow. That way you can set up a surprise attack on any mutalisk groups that try to pick off your drones.
