It shouldn't, folders are more for organization than actual HDD location, anyways

Just because hard drive isn't tossing errors, doesn't mean something isn't up. Try installing Everest Ultimate and go to: Everest -> Storage -> SMART. If any SMART errors are tossed (or not) that should rule out the hard drive.

But then again, I know how PSU's can just screw up everything. I would try memtest86+, burn that to an ISO and check to make sure your RAM isn't failing. Somehow I'm doubting that. I would also install HWMonitor and see if anything in your system is overheating.

As for running chkdsk /f, first run cmd.exe, THEN run chkdsk /f... it may want to run during reboot.

Also, please read the FAQ and use the information there to post your dxdiag dump, which might give us more of an idea what could be wrong.

Worst comes to worst, try redownloading the blizzard downloader, and point it to the files you already got, and let it error check, see if it redownloads any amount of the installer.... then burn it and reinstall the OS (with Virus scanner installed BEFORE connecting online).

What brand is your computer? A lot of them starting in Vista, if you tap that F8 key like you are going to go into Safe Mode, there is an option for Repair Your Computer, that has OS reinstall stuff.

Some brands don't have that, but most shipped with a recovery partition that can be acessed with a different key, different for every brand.

well i bought this pc from a company on ebay so i dont think it is a brand, when i press F8 on startup i get to a screen where i can only select only 3 things one HDD something or rather and the other 2 arn't anything to do with repairing or safe mode

That's a little bizarre, see if there is a button at the initial splash screen to choose a boot device, select your HDD to boot normally, and start tapping F8 from there.

On second thought, that may be what tapping F8 at the initial screen brought you to.

If that's the case, just select the HDD from that menu, and start tapping F8 after you press Enter.

Wow man... I am looking threw your dxdiag.. and its just....I can see ALOT of big problems with your hardware config off the bat.

If you want all of these, do them IN THIS ORDER. Need help? Contact me via AIM or ICQ using my contact information on this forum. I am more then willing to help you.

    1) You need to enter your BIOS and disable your onboard audio. You have your Creative X-Fi, so you don't need the onboard turned on. The proper driver for the onboard isn't even installed either. I'd just turn it off.

    2) You can install Vista SP2. Run Windows Update to find it and download it. Download any other Windows critical updates you may need

    3) You can install Direct X 11.

    4) Run Intel Driver Update Utility. Download any updated Intel drivers you might need.

    5) Install newest Creative X-Fi Xtreme audio driver. You'll have to find it, since Creative's site prevents direct linking. Stupid Creative. You need to update this driver, because for some reason, you are running an unsigned driver. o_O

    6) Install the newest nVidia drivers. Your drivers are two years old! 178.13. O_O;

All of that considered... I would download a Vista64 SP2 ISO, reinstall from scratch. You can use your legit key that is being used for Vista 32. Your configuration would benefit greatly from replacing Vista 32 with 64-bit.

As I stated before, you have some complecated problems that need some more indepth troubleshooting. Contact me via AIM/ICQ.. and if you have MSN/GMail IM and nothing else, send me a PM and I'll tell you how to get ahold of me on those. I really think this machine could benefit from a complete reinstall.
