The Horde includes all the races that make it up. That's the Orcs, the Trolls and Tauren who joined later, the Forsaken who joined after that and the Blood Elves who were the most recent to join. They're all ruled by Thrall, because he's the leader of the Horde. There're still the individual leaders, like Caine and Vol'Jin, but Thrall's the overall leader of the Horde. The Horde's the culmination of races that make it up, which include the Forsaken and Blood Elves, and obviously the Orcs, Trolls and Tauren. If it were just the Orcs, then it wouldn't be the Horde, it'd just be the Orcs.

It's just like the Alliance. All of those races are one, and then there're factions that are allied to the Alliance. The name 'Alliance' does kinda hinder the concept though. But the point still stands. If it was just the Humans, then it wouldn't be the Alliance, it'd be the Humans. And there're races that're allied with them that aren't a part of them. Just think of the races that make up the Horde and Alliance as being states and territories, the Horde and Alliance themselves being the countries and then the races that're allied with them as being other allied countries.

that basically excludes, for an example, the wildhammer dwarfs from the alliance. and the keepers of the grove

what about this for a definition: they help making descisions about all joined military campaigns

Just look it up. The Orcs, Tauren, Trolls, Forsaken and Blood Elves make up the Horde. The Taunka are allied to the Horde. I've quoted that already. They're allied to the Horde. They're not a part of it.

Also, why does it exclude those factions?

The term 'Horde' has multiple meanings in the WarCraft mythos.

There's the Orcish Horde, which right now is Orc, Troll, and Tauren, formerly Orgres and Goblins (I suppose you could lump Undead in with the Death Knights and skellies). The Horde is all five TBC races.

    I'm a self-labeled lore *****.

I much prefer a good backstory to actually playing the game @_@

It doesn't take much to learn all this. What does take much is to learn the storyline... Eugh.

Have you ever seen Cat's Cradle? It's a game, where there's strings crisscrossing every which way. I'm implying that the story for WarCraft is horribly convoluted now.
