I would like a glow substitute.

Also, while I would expect campaign heroes to look different, people are going to make fan campaigns and, not wanting to use Tychus Findlay in said campaign, will probably make a generic marine hero. (Unlike in StarCraft I, you don't just rename a hero unit, you can actually make a new one, although with an old appearance if you don't do models.)

How would you distinguish a marine hero from a regular marine if they're not Tychus Findlay? You don't have to use glow (that would be silly) but IMO a plain colored aura is pretty reasonable. And if you don't like a colored aura, come up with something else. I think there has to be a distinguishing mechanic.

As for heroes having a "different role" I don't think that cuts it. It doesn't matter, you still need to be able to distinguish them, especially for fan campaigns.

Considering there's no leveling and assumedly special abilities i don't think its that important your hero glows, i personally had no trouble telling the cyan zealot out from the masses anyway.

I don't care about the leveling; as long as the hero is different, they should be distinguishable.

I wouldn't care for a glow to signify the unit.

Say Raynor's Marine suit, I'd settle for it looking oh so slightly different.

Heck, even a different team colour would be fine for me.

Plus how can it be Raynor without his teal colour from Starcraft 1, eh?

Tychus Findlay is blue, so he's not using a different team color. It'll be interesting to see how he looks different.

When Raynor's not a marine, he's wearing a white shirt and dark pants, which looks different from any other unit (and isn't team-colored teal).

@Kimera. The white shirt Raynor model you're talking about is made to look like the casual Raynor on the Hyperion, etc. Thing is, he won't actually look like that when SC2 is released. Who would run around on a battlefield with only a shirt anyway?

That model exists because Blizz started to hide him in screenshots as an easter egg, and if he only looked like a Marine (although a teal one might have worked...) people wouldn't have recognized him.

People immediatly recognize his casual clothes from the cinematics. That's why.

There's some artwork of Raynor doing just that! Heck, he did that in one of the novels as well.

There's also artwork of him wearing a marine suit. I would think it depends on the mission. For instance, where was he hiding a marine suit before the Hyperion arrived? I didn't see an empty suit in the bar he was sitting in.

Wait in some artwork doesn't Raynor have a design on his suit?

It has like an x-ray kind of theme on it, a skeleton, right?
