isnt fastest maps made with the map edititor...? how is that hacking -_- and i love the logic of the OP. "you play a map i dont like so you are a hacker!" -_- seeing as how the map editor in sc2 will be alot more powerful then the one in sc1 i can see fastest maps coming back stronger then ever.

and it does not stop people from playing the "real" maps... if you want to play a real map then host a game with a real map and ppl that also want to play a real map will come to play with you on that real map... fastest maps are so popular because ALOT of ppl find it more fun. and also, alot of ppl dont have time to play on regular maps because they usually take long. so they play a fastest map, hence the name.

i like fastest maps because its the only map where you can make basicaly all of your structures and units in a very short time frame and in a wide area. and i find that fun, especially in nr mm games. but omg, by the logic of the OP i must be a hacker! o noes =(

the angry video game nerd should have another episode of "you know whats bullsh!t" and have lightchess as the main "you know whats buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuullllllllllsh!t" topic. but for now, all i have to say to lightchess is

Fastest possible maps were not made by blizzard. A miner can only mine at one mineral at a time, meaning the 50 stacked minerals are hacked. And you cant place a mineral that close to the starting building. It really shows you have no idea what your taking about, seeing as you never used the map editor your self. Your probably also a complete newb that knows nothing about the game, EVERY one hacks, just join a fastest game and check for Auto mining, no scooting, and your opponent instantly reacting to everything you build.

The newbs don't realize there playing a hacker because they simple don't have any expirence.

I still don't believe that more then half of the commenters to this topic didn't know fastest maps were hacked maps. You need to be dam stupid not to see it.

You usually can't even tell if someone is map hacking- no, even mineral hackers can be taken down with the right skill gap. It's niver when they do it in team games, 2 or 3 vs 1 hacker is good odds.

I don't think it is likely that maps where minerals are stacked, next to the start locations, will return, but they'll only revert back to the original "fast map" a start location surrounded by minerals and gas on three sides. With yellow minerals, this will be even faster in SC2.

yeah, and all the players in starleague are also hackers because they play on "hacked" maps with stacked doodads, weird reverse-ramps and such. you can't do that in the map editor, therefore all professional players are cheating.

Personally, I don't find fastest maps fun. HOWEVER I do see them coming back strong, because unlike most serious Starcraft players, which is really a small percentage of the community, the majority of casual players love fastest map or BGH. It's simply fast and you can chunk every single tech with no problems. Of course once you reach a certain skill level, you find the level a play a bit screwd up. Unfortunately a good portion of new players that loved the old starcraft, and stopped playing probably never played "comeptitively". So Fastest/BGH are good maps for them. They don't know any standard builds or how to cheese properly or how to decimate economy. Hell probably don't know the importance of economy till they have none left, but in the end, it's fun for them to play games like "fastest NR 30" or something stupid like that. It is FUN to them and a large majority of what made a lot of starcraft fans happy.

I'm not saying proleague/WCG/MSL/OSL and like Boxer didn't revolutionize the game, hell that is what made games today. However, it's still fun for those learning to play, even though not the proper way to compete, it'll help them understand all the units, and does what, and have big huge battles. Not everyone is PRO with 300+ apm and can muster up huge armies consistently over a 30min period and have constant huge batttles.

In the end, it's a mode that is needed, and will be inevitably be made by someone. On a side note, most hackers do suck even with their hacks on. I loved when the zerg used the larva trick to get loads of minerals before the patch came out and still die to 9 pool.

Asdf: Are you 10 years old? Why would you waist even a fraction of your time on such a useless come back. There is no logic to it and i never suggested anything of the sort.

The Koreans (starleague) don't hack at all, and there maps don't increase there playing ability.

ASDF was using the same mentality as some of the people in this thread.

    www.dictionary.com *insert* sarcasm

Definition: A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.

Oh the irony in this thread.

There was one time I remember beating a hacker in a fastest map.

3v3 and one of our opponents used the stackable SCV hack. He attacked one of my allies, hurting him badly before he was able to fight them off. The hacker quickly built more and attacked me next.

I killed them all with 3 reavers.

I dropped into his base right afterwards and distroyed him, all he had were about 20 command centers. He gg'd w/o even trying to fly them away...

what's the stackable scv hack? you know that the game allows SCVs to stack on top of each other while mining, right?

although i have to wonder why he built 20 command centers...

hackers are usually very very VERY stupid ppl.... also, hackers are only in fastest maps... just the other day i was on a low money BLIZZARD map. it was 2v2 and basically this dude who we were facing did some kind of money hack and another hack to allow him to build extremely fast. so he basically rushed us with mass DTs in the first 2 mins of the game... needless to say, we didnt stand a chance. so pls dont say that only fastest map players hack...

btw i watched the repplay, he had like 99999999999 minerals and 99999999999 gas or something to that effect... id show it to you but unfortunately i didnt save it =/. o ya, his win rate/record was like 20k with like 80 losses or less btw...

I sincerely hope that Blizzard does fix this pathetic hacking problem we have in Starcraft right now. It's so annoying to get stalked by a host hacker and get kicked out of your own game or have people who joined get kicked out and then having to remake only to get host hacked again. Quite a mouthful for just one aspect of hacking. I could go on and on about them. Let's see, I've been drop hacked, host hacked, multi-selection hacked, and been plagued by spoofers using host hack. I search for these hacks online and most make you pay to download a hack. Are people that desperate to win to waste $10 on a stupid hack that ruins games?

And guess what, I downloaded a drop hack! Oooo im such a hypocrite. NOT. I don't use the drop hack on random people. I use it on spammers or other hackers. Oh, I should have added spammed to the list in that last paragraph. My friend actually asked for my help in getting rid of a spoofer/host hacker who joins his game. I joined his game and kicked the spoofer using the host hack. So I guess I'm like a vigilante. It's so satisfying though, to just see this hacker just get dropped. Hahaha... you should have seen that QQing noob who whispered me after I dropped him.

Edit: In my anger/rant, I totally forgot about the fastest maps subject. To be honest, I don't care how much fastest maps are used. They aren't ladder and won't be implemented so I don't see what the fuss is about. It's a map with a lot of minerals/gas. It's not like you HAVE to play it.

the hack allows SCV's to stay stacked, so they can move and attack without having to spread out, allowing them to deal a ton of damage to melee units.

He built 20 becuase his whole strategy was to just mass SCVs and stack them, so no need for any other unit producing building except CCs.

I think the casual league idea they have will replace Fastest and BGH.

Custom maps will be ruled by DoTA clones and whatever new ideas come about.

It remains to be seen if the new B.net will prevent hacking. I'm hopeful though, as there's no other game company with more knowledge and experience with this than Blizzard.

If it's possible, there will always be people that hack, if it ain't, people won't, it is as simple as that.

well, two firebats would have taken care of that problem.
