I didn't see yours until after I made mine. Anyway I was talking about just the terran units and didn't see any new topics about it in the terran section so I figured it was ok.

Well, maybe it's a coincidence but probably one or more of the Blizzard boys working on the units are a Warhammer 40K fans haha. The reapers are cool units, but I don't know how effective or useful they will be... they're cliff jumpers, sure, but they seem pretty freakin' weak. Plus I hate how they don't walk, they just always float around on their jetpacks... I pray that they change that.

Well i wouldnt walk if i could fly ;) but i think they should stop flying while they are firing their weapons. They would be more accurate that way lol

Yeah it is kinda strange the reapers dont walk, i would see there jetpack more as something to jump with. Are reapers goign to be able to jump on to cliffs that are higher up or are theier jet packs just like for short distance kinda things, cause to me it looke more short-to medium ranged stuff they can jump on.

The protoss energy is blue energy. Period. Why give colors to it? I think the team colors in pylon/blades look really cool, but the problem is that, though its some eye-candy, it has nothing to do with the original protoss. I say make pylons blue, leave SOME stuff team colored only. Btw i hope they dont make portraits team colored like in Wc3. I know which fuking color im playing with.

Amen to that Lemmy. What if the Reapers could use their jetpacks to cross water or space? That would make sense in theory, but it would also basically make them an air unit... I just think it would look cool and be very useful, although imbalanced if they are an early unit.

Well the crystals spent the whole of the last game being blue, it's not hard to conclude that that must be their natural color. But a different color for every player? The Protoss would have to be going out of their way to change the chemical composition of their crystals just for team colors. If a unit is switched to a different player, will the crystal change color? I don't buy it.

or they could just stick colored lights in the crystals to illuminate them

How would colored lights affect the color of psi blades?

rofl, but thing about reaps, is that jumping over spaces, and water wouldnt be an imbalance considereing they could only counter so much and then its see you later from three just bring in those stalkers micro and thats it, so far it only seemed that they were good at taking down immortals by not activating thier shield but that looks about all thier good at to me besides the fact that they might make goo harrasing units.

Reapers would also be classified as a hovering unit, so that adds advantage to it, rather than if it were just a walking unit. Not sure if there will be mins in sc2 tho.

Protoss team color looks fine to me. Pylon is a bit much as it's a stationary building, but the whole thing is acceptable. I think it helps in quickly distinguishing the units, and also adds a nice visual touch. If you can have green zerglings and purple hydras, I don't think you really need any justification for making psi blades a different color.

I'm also OK with the new reaver design. I think the change in design from SC1 to SC2 reaver, is similar to the change from dragoon to immortal. Notably less organic and more streamlined, simplistic, and futuristic. But if anything, I wish the reaver would lose the legs. If not, at least give them more pairs of legs that are shorter, mostly equal length, and in the shape of ^ sort of clawlike.

I'm again fine with Terran buildings as well. I'm sure the level of detail and overall polish would kick up a notch as development moves along. The building designs are fine. I'm just surprised at how it seems that the supply depots are now 2x2 instead of 3x2. I supposed it's to help reduce the build space but Terran players will have to adjust how they build barracades.

About tempests, they do seem oddly a size too small. A tad bigger would make them look less out of place I believe. It's hard to shrug off the image of past carriers and just accpet them as entirely new units, as they really are not.

I'm afraid I agree with Paragon. Most of the new designs don't seem to match the character laid down by Starcraft. A good number of Terran buildings and units have lost their Gritty feel and almost look inflatable. The new reaver appears to be stream-lined and edgy, which does not fit their role at all. I think I also expressed my opinion on the psi-blades and pylon color in the unit color thread.

Starcraft 2 is starting to look too similar to Warcraft III. I think it is the 3-D influence that is getting in the way. Even though Starcraft was 2-D it looked far more intricate and believable than the silly cartoon graphics brought on by the last Warcraft RTS.

I hate how the pylons look so dull now. They used to have that "crystal" look, which made it look all sharp and stuff, which is what it should be like. But now it looks so soft and dull. Bring back the original pylons!!

Pylons look just like old ones in SC1, that's just in the realm of nitpicking. Pylons made a great transition to 3D, stop wanting stuff to look like 2D sprites.

They have a glow effect, so what? It looks perfectly fine in motion.

Hmmm well you cant like every single thing Blizzard dose, but I would agree that the red psi-blades and pylons make protoss more badass IMO

And i wonder if the smaller size of the depots will make it possible for small units to squeeze through?

    (zerglings, rines banelings)
