What would you rather see for the ghost upclose attack?

  1. Melee attacks such as gun butts and kung fu kicks.

I agree: Giving ghosts (and other terran infantry) the melee animation just looks really weird. First of all, it makes no sense compared to the protoss (you wanna punch a zealot with your ghost? well you can try :D), and secondly, if ghosts have melee+ long range, the Toss or the Zergs would have pointless melee units, who, in return, have no long range attacks. :D
May I also remind that terrans, lore wise, do not like melee ^^

No human wants to try and box with a mutated dog reptile chittering monstrosity.

    It's not lore.

    It's common sense.

Usually when you´re in close quarters, you don´t have the time to aim correctly or shoot, a knife´s better in those cases, way better, if you can stab the thing and get far, then shoot again it´s done, even on the novels sometimes they did melee attacks on zergs.

The keyword there is "sometimes" and other than aesthetics there is no reason to give them a melee attack game mechanic wise. The whole use of a ghost is for stealth ranged attacks especially since they have a sniper ability now. Thats like giving a zergling a ranged attack or a stalker a melee attack too. There is just no real point to it in the game.

If you want a melee stealth unit play Protoss and use dark templars.

You also really can't justify units having certain abilites based on the lore because it would make things very imbalanced espeically Protoss and ghosts. Ghosts have super human strength can run through walls etc in Starcraft lore but I don't see anyone complaining about them not having those ablities in game.

How about the ghost would pull out a pistol for the critters that get into close range, and then just use a pistol fire animation. Would make more sense the punching the zergling in front of him.

I still prefer the idea of a random stab and then grabbing gun again and shooting hell, makes sense, the stab to push away the critter and then to continue firing, not to alter damage or anything, I just think it would be cool if you could see your infantry randomly alternating between gunfire and melee when in close combat, the damage is the same, just add a new animation that would sometimes pull on when the infantry is on close combat, with the same damage as the standard weapon.

That would be cool and wouldn´t affect the balance of the game in anyway.

I disagree with the idea that it won't change game balance. If you ever played any of the Dawn of War games you would know what I'm talking about because in that game most all units have a melee and ranged attack. What balances this out is that some units are better at melee and others at ranged but they still have the option. Then you have Space Marines which are good at both and it makes them more powerful than others and at different situations. What balances them out is that they are fewer and cost more and don't get much more stronger as they tier up like other races.

I don't see how having a stealth sniper unit and making it just as powerful in both ranged and melee balances anything. Then I'm sure Protoss players would be angry too and demand that their dark templars get a ranged attack or a unit like that, same with Zerg.

If you want a game that is based around units have both melee and ranged attacks etc, then play the Dawn of War series and personally I would like to keep that sort of gameplay out of Starcraft 2 but it does change gameplay.

This is part of the beauty in DoW. Lets hope blizz is smart enough to steal the idea.

I doubt they would be pissed if 2 units from sc2 had a melee animation its not like they have a monopoly on melee animations or the concept in general.

    A Ghost punching/kicking a Zerg or a Toss is very unlikely. I'd say it's insane. Common sense-wise.

This is an moot point. Ghosts in SC2 are supposed to be stealthy snipers... there shouldn't be a situation where they let an enemy get into melee range. =D
