    Well, it neuters their defense, especially if you take out the photon Pylons.

    I LOVE hydras.

    My favourite Zerg unit is The Hydralisk!

    I do like Hydra's, but I prefer Zerglings, Ultralisks and Queens... really, Queens are quite cool! I love Parasiting enemies too... or critters! Especially the flying ones, what are they called? Kakaros' or something? These are cool to Parasite... bit cruel though, but they'll live.

    OK, good point... but back before the Expansion (or at least before I got it, I think it was out for a while already xD), I really liked that parasiting critters part... 'sides it's kinda cool too to just hope for them to go the right way, and not know where they're gonna explore for you next...

    Controlling them still beats that though... I give.

    I think The Defiler is best zerg unit. Becose it has such abilityes like Dark Swarm which makes yours units invurnable In big area of efect the other is plague which after drop big amount of enemy units (also yours if they are in area of efect) gets damage over time which leaves your enemy only 1% his life and then u can qouikly destroy them. That makes Defiler Greatest zerg unit.

    Yes the Queen is VERY cool. Try parasiting an enemy's overlord and you can actually see any burrowed or cloaked unit wherever that overlord goes!!
    Spawn Broodlings totally pwn siege tanks!

    Yeah, or a Science Vessel or Observer... Observer's a bit tough but I've done it a few times, just have an Overlord near and you'll see him, then you can parasite him and stuff... is nice...

    Re: *favourite zerg unit*

    Favorite zerg unit is hard for me to say, i like 'em all. i'd have to say....

    The zergling, why? fully upgraded it is the ultimate defense breaker. i've never seen a defense yet that could last long against a swarm of adrenal zerglings.

    The Hydralisk, why? fully upgraded they are reasonably fast, long ranged, and the fact that i've seen 10 alone slaughter a battlecruiser is good. Besides, i love hunter killers man :p

    The Lurker, why? drops attempting to hit resource lines are much worse off if they're being dropped into a slaughter house. and since detectors are kind of high on the tech tree for protoss/terran having a lurker around early on will make rushes harder. more importantly it can scare your opponent into rushing up to their detectors. which can waste valuable time.

    The Ultralisk, why? awesome damage soaker, and fully upgraded its armor is like 6 with an attack of 29. traveling fast and hitting hard. in a practical situation making a mass of ultralisks is not smart but it's always nice to finish them off with them ;D

    And last but not least, the Mutalisk. why? they've won me the match several times, fully upgraded i believe they do 12, 6, 3. so a pack of twelve is dishing out 144, 72, 36. tell me that's not awesome. you can rip through missle turrets with just twelve mutas, and workers? hitting and running their resource line is always fun. Plus the worker transforms into the devourer and guardian. it IS your entire zerg airforce. Devourers+Mutas=SLAUGHTER.

    all in all. i'd have to say muta's my favorite, but all the units listed above can qualify as my favorite zerg unit.

    i'm a zerg lover, sue me.

    What!? Only 2 other ppl voted muta with me?

    I love all the Zerg units to death... other than ultras maybe. It's really so hard to pick a favorite, but muta are just so sexy.

    You can harass so well with mutas, so many uses, so versatile. High mobility, bounce attack, and just about the only non-capital-ship air unit that's decent against ground. Plus mutas are the only small air units in SC other than scourges, so they take reduced damage from a LOT of things. Equal heads, will beat out hydras ass well.

    Still too flimsy you say? Assault with some mutas, fly out the hurt ones then morph into guardians or devourers. Bam! Full life again, go back in for more hurting. It's just oo beautiful.

    But from the demo vid, mutas looked like they gained weight. I hope this doesn't mean they are no longer small units...

    Re: *favourite zerg unit*

    I usually fail using mutalisks to attack an enemy. Not only that I also find it hard to have situations where I can actually send one out to harass an enemy unit that can only attack ground.

    If I'm playing against Terran, they've got marine EVERYWHERE so it's hard to harass them
    If I'm playing against Protoss, I usually only managed to kill one zealot before they send in dragoons or the dreaded high templar
    If I'm playing against Zerg, I can only kill 3-4 zerglings or so, because all his/her other zerglings are teamed with hydra

    Hence I don't mass mutalisks unless I wanted to mass guardian. Guardians are extremely useful when taking down siege tanks, combine the guardians with devourers and it's an unstoppable machine! Don't send it against protoss though because the psionic storm can just rip it apart.

    Do you remember the mission on the bw zerg campaign where you have to destroy the pylons that power Talematros by stepping on 5 different beacons? Its a shakuras mission. Theres lik 15 kakaru's flying around, I always parasite them and let them just go around because they won't get killed by your own anti air and they slowly reveal the whole map ;D

    Re: *favourite zerg unit*

    Don't try to find situations where mutas can't be retaliated, then you'll have almost no use for them.  You will also have VERY little success if you choose to just send with attack ground and not micro them.

    Mutas' greatest strength lies in their high mobility.  Even with marines and turrets present you can still do ur job and pick off SCVs all day long.  With units that have high attack cooldown, the way to use them is to fire off your attack then keep it away during the cooldown then back to attack, rinse and repeat.

    With tanks and especially revears, you use unit transports to achieve this.  You drop them down to fire off the attack then immediately load the one that attacked to save it from receiving hits during the attack cooldown time.  Then drop them back down after the attack cooldown is over to have them fire again once dropped.

    With mutas you do this by micromanaging them in groups.  You swoop them in to all attack one target simultaneously, then immediately back away.  Both missile turrets and marines attack twice as fast as mutas so staying there to duke it out is not in your best interest.  Even with a few turrets, mutas won't have any trouble to take them out then pick off SCVs, mutas along with scourges being the only small air combat units, receive reduced(50%) damage from most things that can attack air.  Fighting by trading single shots at a time, you've successfully doubled the attack power of mutas against turrets and marines by taking away their advantage of double attack speed.

    At early tier 2, with just a few mutas you should already start having ur opponent pulling their hair out.  It's extremely unlikely that they can have enough marines everywhere to keep you from doing ur job.  If marines are spread apart, u can beat them easily.  If they are grouped together, that just means ur target lies else where, perhaps their expansion or a different part of the main base.  There is really no way they can keep up with your mutas if you keep moving around hitting different places.  And if you frustrate them enough to make them invest heavily into marines and turrets, then you've already bought yourself the advantage in mid-game.

    Mutas are the best air units in the entire original SC by far.  Of course that's in conjunction with the rest of Zerg tech, but nontheless.  However, they aren't a masser's toy.

    same. but the queens for the terran infestation the zergs have usless anti-building but nothing breaks the line better than a Inf swarm to the pylons then send the lings in unharessed before sending the ultras and queens to finish the job
    for the terran i'll admit its harder but Ultras will chew through bunkers bunkers and queens parasite will deal with the tanks.
    as for the infantry...ZERGLING RUSH!!!

    I've just did an experiment to test which zerg unit is best to be used as a siege unit. Well the method is not very accurate and I was only able to test unit that can attack ground. But the results are intersting.

    I used 12 units of the same type at a time. All units are fully upgraded. And I get the 12 units to attack my own Hive. I timed how long it will take for the unit to destroy the Hive, which has a HP of 2500. The results are as follows

    Zerglings = 5 seconds
    Hydralisks = 10 seconds
    Lurkers = 13 seconds
    Ultralisks = 5 seconds
    Mutalisks = 25 seconds
    Guardians = 11 seconds

    So what does that tell us? Well 12 upgraded zerglings are extremely powerful and cost effective as heavy siege units. They took down 2500HP in 5 seconds. Given the fact that 12 Ultralisks costs 2400minerals and 2400gas and 72 supply, 12 Zerglings costs only 300minerals and 6 supply.
    And it's not surprising to see mutalisks performed the worst. While hydralisks actually performed better than lurker and guardian.
