uhm mechs can easily step over "high tech futuristic" tanks in some anime mechs series i've watched.

and a single protoype gundam kind of mech is just too powerful even against a horde of tanks.

lorewise and in real life i think mechs (specially the gundam class and giant robots) are way powerful against any sci fi vehicle you can think of. although tank is more practical and easily massable. but if you have the money why invest on all tanks if you can build SOME mehcs.

and thats why terran needs MECH... and tanks. ^^

Dude... Saying that mechs are powerful because of some anime you've seen really doesn't have any relevance. I've seen an anime where 2 of the same person was fighting each other and after they heard a bell they said 'that's enough' and formed into one person. I have also seen an anime where they spend over half the episode powering up some kind of energy ball. Anime's have nothing to do with StarCraft so please stop referring to them. Mechs in StarCraft are extremely different to mechs in animes.

Here's one tank thats pretty much a historical land mark in tank games.

The GDI Mammoth Tank, the pic is from C&C 3, its pretty close to what im aiming for. The thing is, there arent many great tanks in games, all the more reason for Blizzard to show a good design.

I want a durable unit, with slow hard hitting weapons, which is what the mammoth is, with some rocket lanchers on its sides, its drawback is speed and cost.

I always found multiple tanks in games boring, more wheelie things with different guns.
I find that what the main advantage for having a mech, and I mean conceptually, is that, because they mimic human movement they would be more versatile in their range of motion and easier for the driver to control intuitively, and as said previously, Mechs have 'height'. These things however don't really translate into Starcraft, as Tanks can shoot over anything, and accuracy is always perfect. Also, its not as if the Thor is that agile, perhaps its turning 'ability' will play a factor, but for intents and purposes, it is just a heavy tank; or a mobile assault fortress.

The difference I think between a mech and a tank in Starcraft is just superficial; unless the mech had one of, or a combintion of, good speed, quick targeting, versatile movement (like climbing cliffs, hopping structures, evasion, swimming?). All the Thor has is its turn speed, which, combined with its somewhat complementary role with the tank, might make it a worthwhile addition. In any case, superficial or not, I don't think the Thor should be replaced with a tank.

    Welcome Smoothbore.

Well, its multiple mechs (Viking, Thor, the marine, medic both look like tiny mechs, even the reaper) vs two tanks.

I personally want to see a heavy tank. I find it more dangerous, and better durability.

I would be cr@pping myself if Blizzard allowed the tank you posted to replace the Thor. It's just so plain. It's an ordinary Tank with two guns instead of one, and some invisibly-small rocket pods. The Thor has two double-barreled guns on its arms, with four 250mm Bombardment cannons on top.
Blizzard is always accused of being unoriginal. So why have you suggested a tank from another game? Your proposed tank doesn't look unique, it isn't conceptually unique, and is easily out-armed by the Thor.

    Are you serious?

I cant draw up a tank thats good enough to be put in the game. I just gave you a basic what it may end up resembling.

Why dont you draw up a nice Mech for me? Geez...I already said it, there arent any really cool tanks in games, so this gives blizzard a chance to come up with a cool new concept for a tank.

no they are not EXTREMELY different. starcraft can have gundams if they want to but that would be plagareism (wrong spelling). and is too high tech for starcraft.

and thor, goliath, the rex in metal gear 1, and any other kind of mech in none anime universe are like the lower class version of mechs that im talking about in anime. so they are NOT exactly different.

i think japan will have mobile suit mechs in the future (2300+) as their soldier. =p

ofcourse not all mechs are powerful than tanks but the most POWERFUL mechs owns any tanks and vehicles air or land.

    siege tanks>goliath (low class mech)

thor (mid class mech) > siege tanks.

gundam (uber higher class mechs) > thor

gundam (uber higher class mechs) > siege tanks.

    voltes v > gundam. haha.

Dude, why don't we stop the dichotomy by making Thor build able from meshing Siege-tanks together? Go, go Power-tankers!

Then we add a Red-tank, a Blue-tank, a Green-tank, a Yellow-Tank and a Pink tank. They all fly and group together and form: Thor! It takes out a huge melee sword from his @$$ and blasts an entire base with a nuclear attack, only doable once per-match.

lol, even if I'm kidding I get the feeling a lot of people will enjoy this. Guys, lets think better before spamming ideas. Everyone is going in circles and repeating same things with different presentations. We don't need another tank, or non-strategical related ideas. If a Mech, even if it is a Mech, doesn't fit in the terran strategy, it should get the axe.

We need originality and novelty. Not the same in yet another label.

The Thor is unique to StarCraft, so it shouldn't be axed.
Also @Zeratul11. Mechs in anime's are extremely different to the ones in StarCraft. The ones in animes are always jumping and flying around, whilst doing aerial acrobatics. An example of when they do this is in that video you posted.

Thor is like a Titan. It should have great sight and could cross rivers/rubbles and cliffs (like Collossus). Somewhat slow but much more durable than any vehicle. Throwing white thunders of electricity (wrath...) will stuck the most fat enemy units. Isn't it enough?
Another model of tank will turn SC into Total Anihilation :)

As it would be also a rocket launcher or Katjuscha those is slow and a slow cool down has.
It is to have a siege mode and mass attack.
    Many rockets few damage.
A goal is to be weakened only those defense position.
In normally mode it cannot not attack.
It can attack only far,and by research it can have air targent.
It is having similarly one ability as thor: a combination of Overload and 250mm Bombardment Cannon.
It shoots its whole arsenal and has spell cooldoown from many minutes.
It is a unit for back and forth, but it is only support unit.
Weakly against single or scattered targets.
    Expensively and very much supply

@ Thalion. Good post, but I don't think it should cross rivers, climb or descend cliffs, etc. The Thor's legs are way to small for this, and Terran already have the Reaper to do this sort of stuff. The Thor's weakness is its lack of mobility. Making it an inter-tier unit would drastically increase its mobility, so I don't think that this should be implemented.
@ Justicator. Fairly random post. You shouldn't really structure your posts like bullet points. Instead you should explain the idea that you are about to propose. The Thor shouldn't have a Siege Mode, because this mechanic is unique to the Siege Tank. Giving the Thor a Siege Mode ability would overlap their roles.

    Thanks :)
@ Justicator. Thor shouldn.t have Siege Mode ability because Siege Tank is all about Terran siege techniques. But how about...

    ALPHA STRIKE!

Y'know, Thor would have few weapon systems, shooting indepedently. When you activate 'Alpha Strike', Thor will shoot all his missiles, lightning bolts, cannons, lasers and everything else at ONCE. This will cause mass splash damage (allowing it to 'clear the path' :) ) and serious confusion on battlefield.
Alpha Strike will work similar to Marine Stim Pack altough there won't be any damage just cooldown (5 seconds staying defenseless, and another 25 seconds to do another Alpha Strike.)

Bombardment is basically what you're describing as the Alpha Strike. You said that the Thor should fire all of its weapons at the one spot, so that it can be cleared, but the Bombardment ability already unleashes hell upon the targeted area, so why does it need to be changed?

There no problem with the Bombardment ability, the main problem (well for me) is the practicality of the Thor. In most battle scenarios, most base raiding is a hit and run ordeal. To be able to surmise a massive force and storm the front gate is only feasible when you are playing against a noob or you're playing a "no-rush" match. Depending how far you can bombard with Thor, the only useful strategy for the thor is to position the thor near the enemy's base but not too close where it'll be seen, send quick unit to clear the fog of war of the enemy base and bombard the hell out of their base with the thor.

I don't think that the Thor would be involved in any 'hit-and-run' tactics. They wouldn't be used to raid bases. They would always be used to make a stand, and fight to the death, because it would take way too long for it to turn around and retreat. It would be more effective if it just blew the cr@p out of the base while it could. Waiting for it to turn around and flee would be like sending it into the middle of the enemies base in a cease-fire stance.
The Thor could also be used as a defensive unit. It could absolutely hammer any ground attack coming its way. If it is too slow for an offensive, then use it as defense.

The thor will not make a useful defensive unit IMO. The thor is a high tier unit, chances are by the time you're able to build a thor, the enemy will probably have access to both ground and air units with most upgrades research already. Those Thor are good as dead once you have a warp ray on them, not mention the protoss may have a MS as well. Enemy terrans all have to do is emp them, land vikings right next to them, or yamato cannon the hell out of them.
