theres a difference between lasers and some scifi energy weapons. some using all sorts of different things that cause large bleeding holes in people. it's scifi. it's not real. they can make up whatever they want.

Well, blizzard is trying its hardest to seperate the 3 races as best as it can, so it very unlikely we will see terrans with any sort of lazer other than the ones on the expensive air units. Lasers and all that high-tech technology is almost exclusively reserved for the protoss.

Just consider this : The marines are getting huge slabs of metal as shields, why would they even consider spending money on high tech lasers. :

terrans lose thier identity when they use lasers, protoss use lasers! humans need good old metal to punch holes in those silly zerg, im fine with the air units using lasers, but not land units...

Filling something with bullets is more satisfying than zapping with lasers.

If you look at BC and wraith lasers they don't pass through multiple targets and a laser (even in the future) are rather large need a lot of power for infantry to carry around, but the same could be said about a gauss rifle.

A gauss rifle(railgun/coilgun) uses magnetism to launch projectiles. The hypersonic velocity of railgun projectiles causes them to emit peculiar noises on being fired. A Gauss cannon shot is an actual sonic boom. Firing the largest railguns produces a noise which is audible for great distances, like the noise given off from a bolt of lightning.

Right now the only real-life(for now) way to use a railgun would be to put it on a battleship that uses a nuclear powerplant because of the immense power consumption.(and to be able to move the gun)

But hey this is Starcraft, anything could happen. :good:

all three of these things are different things. the coilgun and gauss rifle being similar in that the gauss rifle uses capacitors while the coil gun uses solenoids with the rest being basically the same and the rail gun being almost entirely different except for the fact that it also uses magnetic force

hehe, power sources.... this takes place a long time from now, and some species (even terrann) will have developed ways to put either undepletable or immense amounts of energies into very small spaces, and a doubt spacer is gonna be a problem on a gauss rifle ITS HUGE!

Its basically, a semi-automatic shotgun, that has explosive ammo as well as frag ammo.

Perfect for close combat and mass infantry destruction

Edit: Like some people mentioned lazers = expensive and hard to move around by basic infantry. Remember why medics were introduced, they were more cost efficient than just training more marines. Besides, dont underestimate the power of bullets. There are some mighty powerful gattling guns out there, and some big ass AP bullets that can cut through immortals just as good as lazers.

Heh, terran should have a special op unit, with a granade launcher, bazooka, sniper, rifle, combat knife, etc....ghosts are tactical unit, we need the special op now!
