Wouldnt it suck if a race like the toss attacked us, in the state our technology is in.

Actually, I can see humans in some odd way driving them back (Will Smith's obviously in a plane). Then we'd chill here, get a united earth, get our weapons up to snuff, and within 20 years, the Protoss come back, but wait...we aren't ready yet! So then we get a battle of Thermopolyae all over again

We've all preety much agreed that there isn't a point to Terran energy weapons and that guns are just all around more bad*ss

tumbling rounds - leave tons of little exit wounds. So many you don't even know all the places you're bleeding from.

becouse a laser would also leave an exit wound it would stop at nothing unlike bullets that can get stopped at armour

ok so marines shouldn't have lasers but what about a new unit that use's them? so you have a row of marines against a zerg rush in the distance the new 'lasertroops' step forward and fire the lasers at them they go the whole distance without stopping/losing accuracy and hit the rows of 'lings completely killing anyone they hit. the lasertroops manage to cooldown and fire several times before the zerg get too close they run behind the marines and the zerg are met with the gritty action of close range guass rifles an ultra come's up and tramples marines guass rounds bounce almost harmlessly of its heavy amour a lasertroop come's up and fires at the ultras head the laser penentrates the armour and destroys the things brain...

so the lasertroop (incredibly sorry about the name but its just an example blizzards smarter) would be a slow loading longrange sniper. having a laser sniper is liable as it could be incredibly long range and accurate and if it was ultra violet the enemies would spot where it comes from.

we would probably win against an honarable race like the 'toss becouse we (modernly) would use guerrala tactics unknown to the honarable toss and we would mass destruction on their ass if they set up a reasonable base anywhere
imagine the lots charge and set of a roadside IED cluster bombers fly overhead and destroy a gateway a jet fighter sends a missle straight through a working stargate and blows up the clustered fleet about to leave aiur through it.

a toss fleet assemble's in earths orbit. the humans are unsure about their attentions suddenly the conclave picks up hundereds of orbital missles and preditor sattelites careening towards their landing force (hell bush would do it )

if the toss would lose their honarablility and fight dirty they'd win. some communications are sent to earth pleading an alliance then a couple of probes land and set up a gateway in a militarized zone to "send in diplomats" and before long the entire toss force is sprinting though.

there isn't just one type of laser, you know
its not like all lasers are guaranteed beams of death
there are varying degrees of strength and all sorts of other variables

that being said, some lasers wouldn't be able to penetrate the hardened carapaces of the zerg, which is exactly like how some bullets wouldn't as well

lasers dissipate over long distances anywhere but in space
