Sorry that was just way too much to read. Anyway I think Duran is a Xel'naga in disguise who seeded the hybrids and used the UED and Kerrigan to eliminate potential threats to their plan.

@Capthavic: You gave me a friggin awesome idea.

The guy who sent the Terrans to Korprulu in the first place was called Doran Routhe. He did this because he wanted to establish mining colonies in deep space to ensure his power within the UPL (United Powers League - a kind of holier-than-thou UN).

Now, my idea is this - what if Doran Routhe is Duran? The idea itself isn't new (considering the resemblance between their names) but the details are a bit different. We've already established Duran is the puppeteer of the Zerg, Kerrigan and previously the Overmind. In order to make sure his experiment could be done successfully without drawing the attention of the Protoss (i mean, if their soldiers started to disappear in peace-time, they would get seriously suspicious - in war-time, that's another thing, with all the chaos and death all around) he needed to use an easily accessible race with similiar psionic potential of the Protoss.
Now, seeing as only a minority of humans actually had this potential, and that the UPL was culling them pretty fast due to their holier-than-thouness, it's not entirely impossible that Duran assumed form as Doran the Scientist, in order to send the remainder of the Psionics on Earth to a place safe from fanatic humans.

"But the prisoners weren't supposed to end up in the Korprulu sector!"

This is the cool thing about this theory. Doran Routhe built the ATLAS navi-computer that guided the ships carrying the prisoners. He could easily have built in a flaw - or even secretly programmed it - that would "misguide" the ships into the Korprulu sector.

Short in short, what "Duran" did was to send these people to the Korprulu Sector, where he and his Zerg ilk waited for the perfect "prototype" to appear. Sarah Kerrigan.
The Overmind (who like the puppet it was, was unbeknownst to the control Duran held over it) thought he was the mastermind behind it (all due to Duran's manipulations) and thus claimed control of her as he would do any Cerebrate. This may also explain why the Overmind had to die. Not only was it to throw suspicion off Duran, but also to free Kerrigan from his control and unleash her completely.

Now, like the scientist he is, "Doran" manages to persuade the UED (Formerly UPL) into sending an Expedition to the Korprulu sector. The UED Expedition thought they were going to take over the sector, but they were just a test of Kerrigan's capabilities. Duran wanted his prototype to perform excellent even under the stress of being desperately outnumbered, which would indicate the tactical power the Hybrids would harness at their awakening.

Very nice links have been made in this thread, I don't know if Blizzard truly considered it in their storyline back in SC1, but it really makes sense.

Little question here, I've read about Doran Routhe somewhere (forgot who but whatever) but I've never heard his name in the campaigns or bonus maps... not from I remember. Can anyone tell me a little more about him? I mean, where has his name been mentionned.

http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Doran_Routhe This will help with Doran a bit. With that information we also must process this as well. This article is about ATLAS. I've almost got my time line done for Duran. You will like it :) http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/ATLAS I wanna know the role of ATLAS now is my question. Heres my speculation on one thing. ATLAS had information on the Zerg. How? I'll let you think of that as on Tarsonis the Psi Disrupter was built their. This truly brings the question up. How long did the Confederacy know about the Zerg and to what extent did they know. I'll explain more later. :) ttyal.
