Good movie probably the best this year. The idea was great and the execution of separate parts of the movie was great but it somehow didnt all fit together as it could. It started off as a documentrary and ended up as any other hollywood action movie. Shame. The movie had a lot more potential than that.

PS: It was a total Half-Life 2 ripoff!

    It wasn't a HL2 rip-off...

    Why would you think that?

Vortigaunt = prawn he even has the small 'hands' on his chest
    Prawn 'goliath' = dog
Throwing pigs at soldiers with a push/pull device = gravity gun
    slums with mixed human/alien population in half-life 2 = district 9
car ramming into the prawn goliath = car ramming into the dog in hl2

I could go on but its too early in the morning to remember it all.

(for the slower ones: yes I am kidding. Although I wouldnt be surprised if the director was indeed inspired by hl2 somehow)

How does moving from a doco to action movie make it fall short of its potential? It satisfies both parties, the nerds, and the explosiosexuals.

And it fit together perfectly. It was clear when it was footage from a documentary, and it was clear when it was just following Wikus. It wouldn't have worked if it was just one or the other. Any history or build-up would have been far too expositional if it was done as an action movie, and any possible progression or action would have been obscured if they tried to keep it as a doco.

And Fenix, don't you know? Anything with aliens, a robot and high tech weaponry is totally a rip-off of Half-Life2. Don't you know that they were the very first pioneers who ever thought up having anything like that in anything that ever existed?

Good point, Higgs. My favourite part was where you elaborated.

Your post is not worthy of elaboration. I can offer you a discount coupon for lobotomy though.

Used coupons? They take it away from you when you enter the surgery. Not that I would know anything about that of course.

Oh. my. FOOKING GOD. This movie was so amazing i just don't know how to describe it here. Just when movies seemed to be becoming worthless pictures strung together and conducted by a deranged puppeteer this movie comes along and blows that idea of the water completely. Loved the beginning with its documentary style allowing the audiences to catch up with the ideas of aliens and the current social status of them.

Movie transitioned into action perfectly in my opinion, it did not feel out of place at all. I was like ooooh when they first showed an alien using his weapon, but my jaw dropped when i saw more. As Ursawarrior aptly put it, goliath online was the most badass thing i've seen in a while.

One thing that made me go even more holy**** is the budget of this movie. 30 million... i honestly expected a much higher cost. It just shows that having a high budget does not mean that its gonna have amazing effects (yes i'm looking at you michael bay). I'm sorely tempted to watch the movie again but so busy lately with school work >_<

*edit* forgot to mention one major aspect of the film. The soundtrack used was absolutely phenomenal (for me anyway) because it was used so well with the scenes and it managed to send an emotional message out quite successfully.

an example of this... i tempted to buy this soundtrack...
