The only reason they say that is because their trying to find a reason to hate the movie.

    He wasn't acting

    :D

He actually adlibbed most of the lines during the Eviction scenes. (Adlibbed means made up on the spot).

It was pretty cool. The dialog kinda sucked, but I wasn't watching it for the talkin.

    The alien weaponry is BAMF.

There needs to be a game. A la Mercenaries. With three factions. Prawn, Gangsters, and MNU. Yes.

Acully alot of the dialog was made up by the charaters to make it seem more authentic.

I watched this today, and I'm just going to say that, to me, describing the movie as 'awesome' simply cheapens the image of the movie. Seriously, it was so complex, well executed and believable, I find 'awesome' simply fails to describe it. 'Awesome' is something that's used to describe a fight scene, or special effect, and using it to describe District 9 just falls far too short.

Being the pedantic, perfectionistic, obsessive-compulsively design oriented, self-declared professional critic that I am, the design of the Prawns was perfect. Absolutely perfect. The effects were sublime, maybe slightly over the top but served their purpose, the complexity of the events was highly intellectual and very full on, right in your face, any and all interaction was a hundred percent believable, and the character development was so deep you could hide the bodies in there without any risk of them ever being found. Quite honestly the best movie I've ever seen, and will likely make all other movies look worse by contrast for years to come.

    And...

    No. Just no.

I have seen it yesterday well it is not so good as you guys say a stupid guy with an enfested arm and every time taking some damage go with the alien cannons and protect an alien that sayed that he can heal his arm but after the guy died and the alien did not healed him.Well the film is not bad it is good but not awesome.

If that's your summary of the movie, you had absolutely no idea about what was going on.

Firstly, the guy never died. He was completely transformed. Remember how his wife got the flower made out of scrap metal? And how in the shot immediately after that, one of the Prawns was making another one? Well, believe it or not, but that wasn't just some random Prawn stalker that was hitting on her. It was him, and on top of that, she knew it was him too.

Secondly, the alien didn't heal him because, and this was mentioned numerous times throughout the movie in both English and in the alienese subtitles, it would take three years for Christopher to get to his home planet and back. He could have fixed him with the fuel he had, but saving the other prawns was much more vital, which was the epiphany Wikus reached, in the mechsuit, I believe.

Thirdly, and this may just be a matter of perspective, but it wasn't just a 'stupid guy'. He was an ordinary bloke. Believe it or not, all protagonists don't have to be some macho gym-goer with a raspy voice. He was an ordinary guy, so much so that you don't realise he's the main character until a fair way into the movie, and even then he just looks like some guy that the cameraman's been told to follow. On top of the turmoil and forever shifting of the 'good guys' and 'bad guys', Wikus' character definitely keeps the 'good' and the 'bad' as being highly ambiguous.

As for the "every time taking some damage go with the alien cannons", I haven't the faintest idea what you're trying to say. As for everything else you've said, I'd say you've largely missed a lot of what was going on. I mean, it's never a good thing when you've gotta take a leak during a movie, but you really should aim on getting back to your seat within the hour.

    lol so true

Its been a while since iv seen a movie as well made as this and when it comes to movies and such I am also someone who is very picky and is getting tired of all the crappy stuff that is coming now a days.

It just goes to show you that you don"t need the biggest budget or the top actors to really make something truly epic as the tale that has been laid before us in District 9.

Saw it last night, i foookin loved it :D.

Character development was brilliant, CGI was brilliant, narrative was brilliant, dialog was 4/5. But most importantly; i left the cinema with a urge to understand and get to know the universe presented in the film better, or atleast see it another 2 times xD.

Good creative works are generally most profound when they influence people in this manner :p. The epic ending climax was brilliantly done, but it was noticable that the director was making his debut.

    - I would like to urge those who do go to see it to go in absolutly fresh, stop reading this thread, dont look for spoilers, just go see it :D.
