i just realized something, Will they sound different? i mean if you get both units that have different models but they sound the same its gonna be really dumb. will the new templar get a darker voice ??

  2. I don't see a problem since it makes just as much sense that all Dark Templar sound the same (despite different models) as all Marines sound the same. That being said, why not? I mean, the models don't look different enough that it would seem off that they sound the same but might as well, eh :D

    Definitely both.

having the two of them spawn randomly would add a special flavor to the unit that I would love to have.

I would go for 2nd one - I don't know why but this one has some cunning look which suits its style.

    Cheers

I went with the Zer'atai (dual scythe) primaraly because of one reason, the principal weapon for an assassin is fear. In my opinion the scythe DT looks much more imposing from the armor and the weapon, and here's some lore fluff I made up, a good way for a DT to really get someone to wet their power armor would be to "flicker" their cloak for a moment and then stall for the kill. That flicker would look MUCH more ominous if they were wearing the hydralisk exoskeleton armor and carrying the weapon of the reaper.

But why does an assassin have to scare the victim before the kill? Why would a DT want it's enemy to 'wet their power armour"?

I just think the blade should get distorted more when it attacks.

Agreed, it would add an extra je-ne-sais-quoi to the game. RTS games are infamous for their armies of clones, so it would be refreshing to have a couple of units that have two ''forms''.

Quite frankly I have no real, undeniably correct idea why, however I think it has something to do with the thrill of the kill, and also bowel clenching terror affecting combat proficiency...historically assassins were used to take out key political and militaristic leaders, this would cause disillusion in the ranks and demoralization, however quite often the assassin would either let slip the fact that someone was out to get either the real target or a false target, on top of that they would, in some cultures, "botch" the job intentionally a first time and strike for real at a later date, other times they would engage in active elimination where the target could easily tell that the killer would go after him and the end was near. All of these were intended to shift the level of combat in a degree favoring the assassin. Modern day, this has grown rather colder and less personal, and on top of that more distant therefore you do not see these events unfolding as much. The reason I took the DT to the more historical approach for thinking was primarily because of the manner of which they chose to dispatch their victims. A ghost would use a 2nd millennium method; long distance, non-personal method of shooting the target and walking away while the DT would have a more 1st millennium approach to it in which fear in combat is a powerful ally if you can harness it.

Haha, lots of stuff in Starcraft is about being cool, not function. It would obviously be bad for gameplay, but flickering their cloaking would be super cool.
