    lurker should be the last unit that gets burrowed movement, the whole point was the the lurker had a weakness in that it needed to unburrow to move, it's not the most advanced burrow or whatever because while others can burrow instantly, the lurker actually needed a second to burrow thus completing its weakness, if you allow lurkers to move while burrowed, it takes away the mechanic effectively giving the lurker permanent cloak. i'm not saying lurker can't have this, but only as a uber upgrade alongside other burrowers

    Can we just drop the whole burrowed movement thing and actually come up with ideas for Uber Upgrades. That is what this thread is for.

    i cant think up any good names but how about increasing the health regeneration rate of the zergs.

    A large increase in Health Regeneration for Zerg would suit them perfectly, or maybe a fairly significant speed upgrade for all their units? A good range increase would be good for all Terran units, because they don't have any melee units, maybe some scattering fire AoE could help their units with fast firing weapons combined with some splash damage for missile type weapons. Not sure about Protoss, would have to be something to do with their Shields, because that is one of the things that make them so unique.

    i think that zerg are the only ones that should get universal upgrades. They are all about adapting by mutating. Extra fast regeneration, extra fast over-all unit speed (except for drones, that way they would collect minerals in a imba speed) and one more thing, that i cant come up with, i guess.

    if only zergs get universal upgrades then their overall strength prior to the uber upgrade would need to be made weaker, personally i think this might cause problems for them before the can get their uber upgrade, which only available late in the game. so i still think if this idea is implemented at all, all 3 races needs to have them

    Why should only Zerg have universal upgrades? All the races in SC1 had universal upgrades, but they just weren't race-specific. In Wc3 you started to see distinct universal upgrades, such as Night Elf sight increase during the night. If you have some for Zerg, you should have some for the other races. Protoss makes sense to have a "harder" shield upgrade or a "Psi Amplifier" or something like that, since they all use Psionic energy. Terrans could do well with a Tecnological universal upgrade, which enhances attack power or speed or something like that. It doesn't "just" make sense for the Zerg.

    he means what this thread is purposing is that every races gets a number of very powerful uber-upgrades that affect quite a lot of their units (think of it as a whole/partial universal upgrade) but in each particular game one can only choose to research one of the uber upgrades available to their race

    Oh ok... that doesn't make sense though.

    i didn't contradict this idea in my post, I stated that all the races should have universal upgrades, and gave ideas that could be used as racial ones. Oh well.

    Regarding that, I think that you shouldn't be limited to just one. This is the concept of a super-unit in the form of a super-upgrade. So unless the upgrades being referred to are super crazy powerful, we shouldn't keep it at one per game. It also doesn't make sense realisitcally.

    yes the upgrades suggested are kind of super crazy powerful, the main point of this idea is that each player can further customize their playing style. e.g. if someone relies heavily on casters then he could choose the universal energy upgrade etc.

    All these half assed arguments against the fundamentals of the uber upgrade idea are killing this thread.

    That's not an argument, that's a play on words. By that logic, level three Protoss weapons upgrade is really just a super zealot in the form of an upgrade. None of the upgrade ideas thrown out so far have even been unit specific. Read through a thread before making illogical arguments, please.

    If you really believe the first quoted portion about the upgrades actually being super-units in upgrade form to be true, then the above statement is contradicting to your own argument. The only "super unit" that we know of so far that pertains to SC has been the WWI Protoss Mothership, and that was limited to one per player. If the Super MS was a super unit limited to just one, and you believe this whole idea is just super units in the form of upgrades, then why would you even argue that it should not be limited to one? You contradict yourself.

    All of the ideas thrown out so far seem pretty damn super crazy powerful to me. Again, read through a thread before deciding to feed your own need to simply argue against something.

    And that would be true because...??

    Remy, since you started this thread, can you please explain to me in more detail how this would increase personalization and customization per player?

    When you have three super, or "uber", upgrades that, in my opinion, limits the customization to... well three. Our current system has three upgrades (protoss here) for ground units and air units making six, and then zealot speed and dragoon range for the heavily favored early units if that's what you want to specialize in, same applies to reavers, corsairs etc. I realize you do not propose we remove these upgrades but wouldn't more branched, diverse, and unique upgrades per small groups of units increase specialization and custom armies to a greater extent than blanket, omnipresent upgrades? I still can't understand this bit...

    Don't want to waste a post, but I mentioned he didn't we dispose of the old upgrades, my question is why not expand those specific upgrades instead of adding new universal ones which I believe is counterproductive to his cause. Also, there are more than twelve choices when you get into specifics like disrupter web.

    I don't think he ever intended the armor upgrades and such to be gotten rid of.

    Remember with 3 upgrades per race you actually have 12 choices.

    This would make sense, seeing as they're all organisms. For other races to do this kind of thing then they would need to equip every single Marine/Reaper or Zealot/Dark or High Templar with the new technology, which would be very expensive, almost unrealistically expensive.
    This is not necessarily true. Just because Zerg are the only race that would receive an uber upgrade does not mean that they would have to be overall, a much weaker team. It could just be that the Zerg don't have many powerful late game units, so instead of getting powerful units, they get more swarming units that are effected by this upgrade. It would basically be upgrading the early game units, so be able to survive longer and fight stronger, so that they fit into the late game.

    yeah, that's exactly how it should be. Instead of giving all three races universal upgrades, just give em to Zerg. That way the races would be more distinct, yet balanced, which is what starcraft is all about.

    Just like Protoss had the mothership super unit, zerg will have universal upgrades. What made the super mothership imbalanced was the black hole instant kill, and the fact that it was to big of a unit to loose. Loosing it, or not loosing it, would make to much of a difference, i guess.
    But the zerg super thingy would slightly affect (almost) ALL units, which would make it more balanced.
