Little side note for all your Mac junkies out there.

In the pwn2own compitition (A contest that pits hackers against each other), the newest, yes, newest, version of Safari was cracked in 1 minute 43 seconds.

    Blarg.

    Holy crap!
was that done through a browser backdoor, or another flash hack?

Last time all of the macs were comprimised because the people who program flash are idiots.

    I'm not entirely sure.

In the competition, the guy linked someone to a webpage that had the exploit code in it, and he was able to take complete control from there. They were vague on the hack itself, due to obvious security concerns.

Wasn't that almost a year ago? I heard that Apple released a large number of updates shortly after that, but I don't know if any of them fixed the specific problem. What I read is that clicking the link opened some port that allowed the hacker to telnet in and execute any code he liked. I don't think it had anything to do with flash.

Anyway: Firefox. The plugins are so useful...

EDIT: after day 1 of this year's contest, Safari, IE8, and Firefox were all cracked. Chrome was the only browser to survive.

IE is ridiculously easy to hack. It's also the largest target simply because of market share.

Chrome is cool. I use it and FF. Once Chrome gets addons, extensions, themes, and plugins, it'll be king.

    Till then, FireFox.

That should be taken care of in the next update, since it is quite an annoying thing if people can not scroll properly. Anyways, FF using to much RAM is not really a propblem. You can always use the portable version from portable apps, which is just as fast an works with all add-ons. And if the 6 gigs of RAM in most new desktops -and even laptops- is not enough, then you have a serious add-on addiction. :p

My chrome has been perfect since I got it. Only slow if my ram usage is at 100%. But that's a given. Chrome uses less ram than anything else I run. And Firefox doesn't. So.

I have no knowledge about how much RAM chrome uses, but if it uses the least of all your software, then you probably use adobe reader. Try foxit reader instead. A bit off-topic, but it might be a good thing to try for you. :)

Chrome is faster for me than firefox which is the only thing that makes me use it more, it has some glitches are issues for me but that's understandable considering it's still in beta (or just came out? idk anymore)

Chrome uses the least memory because it runs no add ons(firefox) or graphics(safari). As far as running faster.. i heard its faster for google related things, for obvious reasons.. not sure about regular sites tho. Im pretty fast in firefox and dont thin i would see a difference, if any.

I just switched over to Firefox from Opera, since Opera and Vista just don't mix. It would do retarded things like crash when I used the Google search bar (EVERY time), or when I had more than 5 flash videos open on separate tabs. Annoying as hell.

Firefox has been pretty great; only crashed once since I started using it two days ago. And it was because I opened up too many links from this one site that does a ridiculous amount of redirects. I don't like the vanilla browser all that much, but after installing 4 or 5 addons it basically has all the same functionality as Opera, plus sites generally just render better (nobody builds Opera-friendly sites :(), so I'm happy.

    Firefox, hands down

It has what I offer, I don't like the "browsing feel" in IE, haven't tried the others much.

Just for lulz, I tried the new version of Opera on my netbook.

Then immediately installed it on my desktop when I got home. It's awesome. Like...I love it. Every aspect. The lack of AdBlock is annoying, but I can live without it.

Right click where there isn't an image (otherwise it brings up image options) and select block content on the menu. Then just click the ads and press done. Works on 99% of the ads out there.
