Blizzard looking to "monetize" Battle.Net

Well I seriously hope they don't make a monthly fee with it. If this turns into another WoW with the monthly fees along with actally buying the game I think a good portion of people won't buy it. I think that the changing name thing and stuff and being charged for it is a great idea.

Nah, I think name and server changes could easily charged, but other than that I absolutely agree. The more we pay for the game itself, which is the thing we want to be paying for, the more support B.Net gets.

Gah! They won't! That's already been confirmed!

They aren't going to charge for name changes or server changes.

i would play if you had to pay a monthly fee for battle.net on starcraft 2, but i would really hate it and lose faith in our once "Great Blizzard"...

Just because it talks about Diablo specifically, it does not mean that it doesn't still settle everyone's concerns. If you were to read on you would have seen:

I'd rather have a monthly fee than pay 50 cents each time I play a game online : ()

id rather not have anything to do with monthly pay at all.

Diablo and WoW are MMORPGs (right?) which have a little sense to have te player pay monthly, but rts games in my personal opinion should not have people pay monthly...i really dont like the idea

Diablo 3 is just an RPG with multiplayer support, nothing MMO about it.

A monthly fee is probably in their minds but they will probably (hopefully) deny the idea. For all we know, a new MMO might be being developed behind the curtains to rack in more money.

However, we might have to pay for other things. Perhaps pay a fee to create an account? No more need of creating loads of accounts for clan names or forgetting your password/account. This would probably result in a higher degree of account safety and monitoring of hacking/etc. I would not mind this, I'm sure they might have an idea of another fee, but I just can't think of anymore.

yea i have to agree. the whole trilogy thing kinda bothered me that they would make us pay for each campaign but charging for bnet makes it seem like they just want to make more money and not really care about the fans as much =\ anyways as long as its not offical yet then i wont get to mad.

They have confirmed that there will not be a monthly fee for Battle.Net.

As for making a new MMO behind our backs, they're kinda doing it right to our faces. Their unannounced project that isn't a part of the WarCraft, StarCraft or Diablo series, i.e. is a completely new franchise, is a next-gen MMO.

I hate how every complains over the goddamn trilogy, there's nothing hypocritical about his quote, about not forcing us to spend extra to get the full game experiences. We'll be getting campaigns that are basically games in them selves along, really long and detailed. Hell, they'll probably keep us busy by the time the second campaign comes out, and the same goes for when the third comes out. Now the game will keep our attention for 3x longer probably, stop complaining. People wait 10 years for the sequel, and when it comes out as a trilogy, people's so-called passion for the game dies like that?

Even if they monetize battle.net, which they said they wouldn't, I would still pay for it... it's going to be cheaper than WoW, probably two times as cheap, and to be honest, when I played WoW a few years ago, $150 a year to basically never have nothing to do, was a pretty good deal. Probably would have spent that much in other games anyway.

    About that Online Fee?

As long as it remains a fee, aplicable ONLY to those who want more customising, THATS OK.
But don't expect players who've been helping to grow Starcraft's reputation along of the years (I started when I was 14) to now pay a fee just because we're adults and undiscuted fans. Free Online gameplay was what made Starcraft great worlwide and especially in Korea where it has millions of fans. Such a fee will be interpreted as a betrayal and will wipe out that piece of the market, say, guys like me and older 21-35s. More than they can ever expect. Still, cant criticize them no more. In fact, I love the guys at Blizzard. Sorry for honesty.

Well about that...At first I was:confused: but if it comes once a year, its not so bad nor costy. And then, considering the quality of the cinematics, the interactive storyline with the in-between battle scenes like in the Hyperion (that's good storytelling) I'ts OK by me. Let them charge a bit more for each pack, but not for Battlenet.
