Oh I agree and I just finished PMing a mod about this when I read your post. Seriously we gotta stop thinking the same things . . . . nah seriously it's cool. A good idea though.

like many of the others i am without a beta key :( i opted in for the sc2 beta with my battle.net profile but how do they pick who gets to participate? is it based on computer specs and so on or just a random draw?

how would they contact you? via email? via link an open link from battle.net?

what happens if the beta info goes to ur junk mail and is deleted can it be retrieved?

sooo many questions not enough answers :(

People people always thinking of the negatives. You should try to think of some positives.
No beta key for you means by the time mid of the year comes around you will not have played SC2 and it'll be new to you and you can go wow a new game for me to play. All the new experiences. It will not be new to the beta testers as they will have played the heck out of whatever Blizzard vomits out as their beta test package.

Sure you don't get to beta test but you get to be not all SC2'd out when the full game is released.
And I think that's a very good thing indeed.

Now the only question remains is what to spend more time on SC2 or WoW 4.0 - Cataclysm

i think it was said that they pool all of the potential candidates based on comp specs. and out of that pool they will select ppl at random.

if i dont get into beta id be bumed out but atleast ill have some replays on youtube and what not to watch. maybe even some good commentary to go with it.

I disagree. I didn't mean to sound elitist. I know I did but I was in a rush because I wanted to play some Mass Effect 2. My point was that on other forums and in the other betas, a lot of times the people who do not put that beta key to good use (from a selfish outsider perspective :D) get it. I don't usually care but since I don't have one of my own I want it to go to the "best people" for this particular beta. For example, someone who doesn't know how to record videos or what not is less preferred over someone who would do a lot of uploads and community feedback. II would like the beta keys to go to the people who can give back to the community the most. I believe that you are one of the best candidates for this from this forum so I mentioned you. Perhaps, I should've been more clear on this since I guess my statement could've been interpreted as a stab to someone or other, but, again, I'm hopelessly addicted to Mass Effect 2 at the moment and, if you'll notice from my lack of posts and shorter replies, I haven't spent much time being as thorough as I usually do. Hell, it's the middle of the night and I have school tomorrow but I'm still going to go boot up the game since I'm feeling a bit restless :D

Oh, and yes, IIRC, Blizzard was pretty clear on the point that we WILL be able to use replays in beta.

@the8thark: I agree completely. That's my current mindset :D And, the moderators have already expressed an interest in creating a beta forum specifically for the beta related things.

I also hope that there will be good sources to watch SC2 beta footage. I remember there being this guy on youtube who only hosted quality starcraft matches, anyone remember his name?

    @ DeckardLee

Maybe how you said it was not the best, but I totally agree with the principle you are trying to get across. Why give a beta key to someone who will not upload video or share their experiences with us. Only ones who are willing to share their good SC2 experiences with the rest of us fans should get beta keys. Which is exactly what you meant I think.

I know everyone in theory should be able to get one. But really it is rather selfish if you beta test and don't share the wealth of SC2 beta with others. I think Blizzard should have it in their Beta agreement. "Each beta tester must sign up with at least one SC2 fan forum and share their game play experiences within". Actually that'd generate more SC2 talk. And Blizzard wins too that way.

And on another topic I think Bizzard wants all the beta replays out there, to flood the world so you can't go outside without overhearing SC2 talk. The Blizzard propaganda machine will roll on :).

[ot]And here I thought this news would make us come together and do a musical number.[/ot]

Anyway, I can't deny that this news has gotten me very excited, but I'd rather not get my hopes up until the beta is actually released.

I intend on doing write ups of my beta experiences...i might even make videos if people can suggest a good program to do it (I've only made videos using Source's inbuilt recorder >>).

Though i'm sure within a week everyone will be sick of the 500 extra SC2 videos on youtube every day and ten million wall of texts. However i do have the advantage of knowing at least 2 others with keys so maybe i can record a LAN (A battle net 2.0 LAN but it still has the same spirit).

I think I'd be most interested in hearing feedback on some of the more technical layers of the game.

For example: The pathfinding in SC is awful, and even in WC3 feels a bit clunky at times. Like when something is trying to overtake something else, and it keeps getting stuck behind the slow unit. Or when a unit is being microed out of a crowd and it doesn't know which way to go for the best as other units are being moved forward.

It would be nice to have some feedback on how smooth and responsive that feels in SC2. It's hard to get a feel of that from watching videos.

@marinefreak: I'm sure someone here can help you can find some nice guides and programs to get this done. If you have the proper hardware then it's fairly easy from what I understand. You may have to pay for HD videos but I'm pretty sure there's some SD recorders out there for free.

@jasmine: I would like to know how the AI/pathfinding/movement feels as well. I've heard a lot of complaints that it's simply too easy but that's from the hardcore demographic. I want to hear from people more closely related to me.

@Kaaraa: Please don't misinterpret what I was saying. I've already apologize for my hasty wording and tried to clear it up.

Personally I want to know about unit match ups. It is scissors paper rock. As in unit A is a good counter for B. And B is a good counter for C. But A gets slaughtered by C. Or if it is more general like SC1. Where sure there is an optimal counter to a situation but at a pinch you can use the units you have at hand with a little skill and not get horribly slaughtered.

I hope it's the more general way of unit match ups. But only time will tell and I really want to know which one it is.

Those are some very good questions. Questions which I have for myself as well. I hope someone writes about this in-depth.

Does this mean that there will be no regions? Cause he uses the word "start" in the sentence

    Original source

I'm not sure but you might want to check on the fan sites responses for the answer.

I haven't found something important. but I've just heard the part of the conference mentioning beta.
You can listen to it here

It says "the beta test will be conducted on a global scale including thousands of testers in north america, Europe..."

And then we have this answer from avarius which can be found in the prementioned post. The answer goes to a question like mine. You can check it out.
But I really don't know if it is for real that all regions will start simultaneously....

From what I've read, the beta will start over the whole world simultaneously, not region specific.
