    To JonX:

And your point is? Well I see your point.
But it's out in one month. And well it's more information for him I guess. Information is the key you know. And I just want to make sure he gets every little bit to make his decision. And the one month only really matters if he has to have the computer right now. If he get it in a month or more time from now then it makes no difference.

    To Seradin:

Shutup. I didn't rubbish any of the other options. So do not rubbish mine. And let the original poster make his mind up. Really I think you're one of the best people who frequent this forum. Don't go and ruin this awesome image you have here please. We're trying to help him without our own personal bias.

In case it's edited at a later date?... lol.

    Just in case, I guess.

Honestly, Marine, I don't think you're going to be happy with a Netbook. They just don't run anything very well and they're not even that much of a bargain. Stay away from anything with an Intel Atom processor. Those are meant for phones but somehow jerry-rigged as CPUs for low end laptops.

I should so be really evil here and say I want the key after all.

Dunno any specifics, but there was a netbook, I believe, at **** Smith which boasted an eight hour battery life. From memory the cost would definitely exceed the limit you've set, but that was merely the marked price. Dump a whole lot of other stuff in there, like a lifetime's supply of soon-to-be-outdated USB's or anything else you need and it could potentially become reasonable. Not to mention you'd have a lappy that could endure the longest of uni days. Other specs were terrible of course, but there's no need to worry about them.

EDIT: Oh, c'mon. It's a respected name brand.

I suggest you do not buy a netbook. My friend has a netbook from dell and he cant even play flash games on them.

There is couple resources for you to use when buying a laptop:
There's a site called shopbot.com/au that helps you compare prices so when you find the laptop of choice you can search it and find where the lowest price!!
Also, if the company you are buying from allows you to price match then you can send them the link and price match lowest price!!

Here I found a laptop that may suit you:
    http://www.penta.com.au/template.php?seqid=58591

    MEMORY : 3GB (0 Slot Available)
TFT DISPLAY : 15.6" HD WXGA LED Glossy
    and etc
(Edit: Lenovo's are usually reliable and good for work)
In exchange for a bit of extra weight, you get great specifications, instead of those low performance notebooks.
I hope this help assuming you live in Australia since you are using AUD and most of these other sites will punish you hard for shipping if they even ship to your area.

    Edit: Some new ones

This one fits your description most
    Best of luck!!

I agree 100%. Well said JonX. Netbooks have their place in the world. But today's netbook is tomorrow's electronic waste on the scrap heap. Sadly it's true, netbooks do not have that long useful lifespans. So if the original poster can put off buying a computer for a while and save up a little more cash. And get a better notebook computer that can really fit his needs. I think that's the way to go. Sure it's a little more money. But it's a computer with a much longer useful lifespan and can do much more things for you.

So if you can find a better notebook computer in your price range sure go for it :). But if you can not, don't hesitate to use the pen and paper at university to take notes for a month or two till you can save up for something you wlll be happy with. And in the long run I'm sure you'll feel better knowing you got what you really wanted and not any old thing just cause you can have it right now.

And yes I was at a Qld university for a while and only used pen and paper to note take. It's annoying at times but it's certainly doable.

    Hey man,
Yes I did make an account just to post in this thread :p. I'm aussie and recently benefitted from this deal at Apple http://store.apple.com/au/browse/campaigns/back_to_school?cid=AOS-BTSFY10-dotcomau-AppleHomepage

In fact my mum told them I was at uni (which is true) and got the mac book and ipod touch for herself, don't tell anyone :p

I've been using it this weekend while I'm at home and it is very cool. Slick and easy to use, and of course theres no games to keep you distracted :). I've never been a fan of mac but this has changed my mind. Of course if you're in need of a fancy new ipod its even more incentive.

Up to you of course, hope this was helpful!
