Perhaps - I was thinking along the lines of innovative thirdparty matchmaking services for, say, a national league, a single regional tournament or something much crazier. It thought it would add to the professionalism of such initiatives if they could be in charge of the entire process from setting up the game to reading its outcome directly from Battle.net.

I doubt Blizzard would allow for any third party systems to be used for Battle.net.

And Blizzard is making plenty of money and part of that is from Bnet being such a good service that people want to play their games online. Plus there are ads on bnet that aren't all blizzard ads and those rake in income. If people didn't have to use bnet, the ad space on bnet would not be worth as much.

I don't want to close the bnet threat at all. I just figured this was something that deserved it's own thread for discussion. There are plenty of ideas that having clans/guilds support open up to. I like a lot of these ideas people are having for it.

Levels for the clan could be
    General, Captain, Private, Recruit
    Overmind, Cerebrate, Hydralisk, Larva
    Conclave, Praetor, Executor, Templar

more of an aesthetic thing rather than function. Leader's choice or whatever.

I would like an option to be able to choose the look of the commendations you give your members; ala medals and awards. That way they could be in the persons player profile. Would just add a different element to the game. Maybe something that can be seen by everyone too. Just nothing too flashy though.

Of course. With any game, I play story or campaign first. Just to get the feel of everything and to know what each thing does. THEN I start the intenet playing

First I'll do the campaign.. with cheats (I'm just that impatient). So I'll know the story of SC2 within 2-3hours.
Then I'll play BNET and probably do some single player campaign when I'm pissed because I lost 5 times in a row.

I'll play like I want to, I'm not going to hack on Bnet, I just don't feel like waiting 2 weeks to know the end of the story-line. But if you pay me a SC2 game, feel free to tell me how to play.
