I seem to recall that Kerrigan has taken a keen interest in infestation of Terrans as of late. Perhaps she's looking to bring powerful ghosts into the fold in order to use them in the same fashion the Overmind used the cerebrates, desiminating orders through these ghosts and directly to the broods.

Ok so apparently Kerrigan has crammed all of the Overminds abilities in her tiny little body, mainly by being psionic, which is a potential Zerg lack.

Way to make her creators obsolete! Was this what the overmind had in err... mind, when he created her? I personally wouldn't create anything that would render me obsolete. Or did he perhaps understand that invading Aiur might cost him his life, thus securing a future for the Swarm with Kerrigan as a leader should anything happen?

Humans were brought into the fold to serve as liutenants of the Swarm then, rather than for their ability to go boom in SC1? Lore mentions that the swarm sought to infest the terrans mainly to get access to their latent psionic capabilities, which they knew that they would need to face the protoss.

I hope there are at least cerebrate models in the game, so we can recreate the cerebrates custom map.

It didn't matter to the Overmind if Kerrigan could replace it. As long as it was alive, it could control her. She went out of her way to kill the much weaker second Overmind in the Brood War, seemingly out of fear that it could control her.

I for one, would love seeing the Overmind/Cerebrates make a comeback in some kind of peculiar way. Even though Kerrigan is cool and she has A LOT of psychic power I think the Overmind and its underlings are a lot cooler, they really are Zerg you know, not a human thats been infested and turned to their leader.

Kerrigan was fine with using cerebrates to help command her forces considering you played one when you were the zerg in brood wars. I don't see why she wouldn't make her own cerebrates to help with logistics.

Blizzard has repeatedly stated that Kerrigan doesn't need cerebrates.

It seems she'd rather use queens and infested terrans, both of which are mobile and can act as actual heroes.

She doesn't need cerebrates but it doesn't mean she doesn't want them. Even though she didn't need them, apparently she felt that the cerebrate we play as in Brood War was worth her keeping. The Overmind was a giant brain that controlled the Zerg, but remember, it had to have had immense power in order to warp to places. Kerrigan on the other hand, doesn't need to warp to places. She just flies her stuff through space.

Personally I hope, that cerebrate will be a factor in Starcraft II, it would add a great twist in the plot. Cerebrates trying to kill Kerrigan in order to regain the Swarm. Who knows?

She doesn't want them. She's nuts, remember? She hates being controlled by the Overmind, and went out of her way to kill the cerebrates because they could, if only in theory, threaten her power. Even as she creates new infested terrans, she makes sure they're weaker than her, even though none of them could threaten her the way a cerebrate could.

Kerrigan kept that cerebrate because, at that time, she needed one. Over the four years she got rid of them all, and over those years her powers expanded until she can control the Swarm alone. Chris Metzen was quite clear on this point.

I think there is a possibility the overmind may or may not come back as well as the cerebrates

They should not be gone because they can control the broods
