Lets try and not derail Jis's thread... (P.S. I am probably going to always call you Jis for lack of knowing the alt code for that e...)

Anyways, the Rep and vBexp systems were just added a couple of days ago so they don't represent much at the moment as time prgrosses hopefully rep will show a persons level of respect or at the very least level of helpfulness.

    No problem,
I used first to use the nick "JC" (the initials of my name) in all online stuff (games, forums etc), but being pissed of after a while of all the attempts to know what those initials could mean (or not), I finally switched to "Jissé", which makes the same sound in french, but spells differently. I am glad I could enter my nick properly on this forum, usually I am used to just be "Jisse" =/ ...

    The alt code is 130.
(I don't live in France anymore, and became the master of the codes of all those letters with accents ☺)

Regarding the reputation / XP system, I am curious, because I come from the CS (1.6) community, and became bitter about the random recognition of the gaming community to the mapping one: the more a map is cheap (dust remakes, killboxes etc), the more the guy was called a genius by the players (CS maps websites are full of congratulations of idiots to cheap maps, from my point of view), which is pretty annoying when you did a map that required hundreds of hours of work (I was unexperienced, and had to redo a lot of things many times), and met an average success >< ...

    The related map:
    http://www.jisse.net/web/deraid/screenshots.html
    (it was years ago)

So from this time, I am thinking about a way to rate people for what they really are: gamers, mappers, posters, organisers etc, to have some place on internet where things would be displayed as they are, not as some (unexperienced) people feel like they should be, but the more I think about that and the less I believe it is really possible to code some scripts that could generate statistics relevant and reliable enough (a gamer can play thousands of games and still sux, and a mapper can just release a single map and be pretty good) =/ ...

So yes, I am curious to see how that system could work =) ...

    lol

Yes it is, but the picture is a bit outdated (a year old, and dedicated to my job search at this time, kind of like those pictures you see in the newsletters of IT companies you know, but now my haircut is really short), and I am planning to make new ones, that could suit better with this kind of forum (more sci-fi style).

Yeah, I guess this kind of environment, heavily science-fiction and wargame oriented, is much more dedicated to us guys =) ...

The few I know of Digimon is that some kids get moved into some virtual dimension where they encounter various monsters. And the picture quality is much better from what I remember. Well, Digimon sounds a bit kind of "nerd powa", but it's definitely better than "I take all credits for making fights with creatures I just found on the way".

Well, my favorite anime currently is One Piece: I am not really into japanimation, but this one is ok ^^ ...

Jissé you seems like one of the best gains the community could get. Map-modding is great, and its just what "we" need! I think you will have a nice time here, there are so many nice people on this forum, and nearly all are friends. Not like you will see me post very often at this moment, and Ill not enter a discussen at thismoment either, but the community is great, and you´ll love it.

Yes, exactly what I mean here, regarding my comments about CS maps ratings:
But how to prevent frivolous use of the rating system? =/

My opinion is that all gaming community needs some "modding department", in order to keep the game fully updated with the last ideas and expectations of the players. My objective with Starcraft 2 would be to organise a permanent tournament around custom maps, where mappers will compete each others to make the best multiplayer maps, and players/clans to win playing them. I tried this first with CS 1.6, but the game and the community were too old, and people not really keen into trying anything new beyond redoing endlessly launch CS > join servers> dust2 > terro > ak > alley A > flash > headshot > you're dead, please wait > next round > alley A... I did my best making and promoting the map, but almost everybody gave a damn, so I finally realised the problem was not me or the map, but just that I was trying to change things in a game that was already dead (understand "ruled by human bots"), so as an hardcore gamer who likes games that mixes cooperation and competition (which are the two inseparable sides of life in my opinion), I am looking forward into Starcraft 2 to make that project real, I just need to "catch the beast when it just comes out", in order to not wait for people to get used with the basic, default games and maps, and become unable to play anything anymore beyond "Big game hunter 2 extra fast" and "lost temple 3 rush rush rush"...

That's good to have a nice atmosphere in online forums, but hard: most of them I know invariably become invaded by trolls, who do nothing but claiming ownership of the premises and bashing the newcomers, making the whole forum going bad and infested of rants, unconstructive criticisms, stupid "private jokes" and various off-topic comments and questions...

I am thinking about some way to settle a community system that would in the same time encourage the ones who bring new things (ideas, materials etc), and reduce the field of action (not sure about the word) of those who just come here to waste their time and share their bitterness and/or their stupidity, but I really doubt some software could be able to define "this guy is good, but this other is not", and if I settle something with people judging other people, I fear to just fall in a aristocracy system, with priviledges, "important people" etc, which could turns out to finally be worse than the original problem =/ ...

There really is no way to determine a good poster from a bad without human interaction. But you will notice that most people who try and cause probelems or post spam (outside of Space Junk) tend to call down the fury of the mods.

I personally love UMS maps so if your one of those great Map Creators your work is atleast appreciated by someone.

    Thank you for your welcome.
What about this by the way? Will it be another forum or an extra section to this site?

Yes for forum environments, moderators are definitely required and can do the job, but I am more worried about the ratings of works contributions, like maps and other various materials, where some users may think it's more important to have his job well rated than to actually do something good, relevant and original, and who will focus much more on advertising their cheap works to alllllll their online friends, in order to have the published work as much overrated as possible, than into doing something well done. I saw whole pages of mindless "da fock#ng best map ever 5/5", for cheap killboxes I could do in 10 minutes in Counter-Strike, than relevant ratings for much more worked map (with original layout, original textures, some testing etc, requiring weeks of work), and this is what I would like to fix for a possible Starcraft 2 site dedicated to mapping and/or modding: enabling automatic and public publishing and ratings turns out to not be a good solution, because the server invariably turns into being a trash for all the clueless people who had 15 minutes to waste and who would like to share them with everybody, and the proud ego ones, who think because some of their friends liked their "map" once, they did "the best map ever".

Haha, so it will be a map in SC2?
What kind of map will it be exactly? a kind of coop, "Warchasers"-like map (in WC3), where you have an hero to select, and then a whole maze to explore, or more a kind of "hero arena" map, with quakish features like a big DM arena and heroes with 354684321 hp? =)

By the way, do you think SC2 will enable the users of the level editor to make nice solo missions, with plenty of modding features, or will it be only possible to make multiplayer maps with plenty of scenery details but nothing else? =/

The level editor will allow lots of things. You will be able to create all sorts of solo missions with very complicated triggers but people tend to prefer multiplayer UMS maps simply because it's more fun.
