Another look at the Mothership, Thor, Queen

    Ohh so there is a unit that still uses mines - vulture - that unit in SC1 was not as good in fight but verry effective in base deffence for terran , the mine was the only thing i used tu build them
    Pfff but first let's forget that and think of some ideas for the thor something to make it special because except from the b cruiser from terrans , they to need something new and the thor was a good idea at the start, but the ones in blizzard know best i gues :) but a little brainstorm of ower one isn't that bad i hope

    It required a high degree of micro, which made it difficult to use due to how macro-heavy StarCraft I was.
     
  4. They're still one of the best units in the game if you use them right. On Big Game Hunters, they're complete pwnage.

    Umm...you mean like every good terran player? The Thor is in the same spot that the goliath is, even though its more expensive. Why do you think ppl built gols in SC1 instead of wraiths?

    Plus, unlike gols, the Thor has an AoE attack, meaning it'll be much better than any other terran unit at attacking air units. Take it out and you'll have marines, ghost, turret, viking, and BC for AA: of which, the Thor currently trumps all of them.

    Also, since air units auto-stack when moving around, the AoE from the thor will force the enemy to move/spread out units instead of attack.

    Any good player would look at all the units he has and determine how useful his units are.

    By the time THors can come into play Battlecruisers aren't too far off. Use upgraded Vikings, marines or (if viable) ghosts to deal with Mutas and the Pheonix.

    Thors only require the Factory and Armory (and probably the Tech Addon). That's far earlier than the BC. It's even earlier than the Viking.

    As I alredy stated, the Thor trumps all of them in damage/sec due to its AoE damage. Blizzard's already stated that just 1-2 of them can deter early zerg muta harass, and you can get the thor roughly the same time you could get gols in SC1, so it isn't too hard to get 1 before the mutas come.

    Thors have a lot more range than marines, so you won't end up sacrificing your whole army to kill a few early mutas.

    And Like GMG said, you get Thors way before BCs.


    Also, a good player would realize that the Thor is the best way to combat early harass from mutas or vikings. And since the viking's upgrade are from the armory, there's no way you'd be able to upgrade them before you had the option to build Thors.

    Wait, what Viking upgrade? The ability to transform? That had to be researched when it was built from the Factory, starting out as a ground unit. Now that it is built from the Starport it comes with transform for free.

    Oh I see. I was confused by "viking's upgrade" being in singular, seeing as the armor and attack are two different upgrades.
