nice analysis. It's true that when they have "dumb" things down just names that are already commonly used "colossus" "thor" (they're even marvel chars) it takes away some of that "high brow" feeling that starcraft had. Hopefully Starcraft 3 wont be "gun-ship" and "missileturret-car"

There was an interview with Dustin Browder, and i think, that some koreans mentioned actually how there was difficulty with the names of units and such. Though it'll definately add positive flavour for people in NA lets say..we have to keep in mind that SC2 is and will be aimed to be an international game, with as much people playing it as possible. Perhaps there is a reasonable trade-off for familiar (but overused) names if it'll mean that people who don't have a strong command of english to have a chance to enjoy (or at least understand/remember the units) the game.

 

Haha, good point. I actually thought it was a really interesting thing to bring up for Dustin Browder, or just interesting in general. I'm of Chinese decent and my father is as well and his English is quite poor, but he LOVES starcraft. He's also very good. But at any rate, we'd talk about Starcraft in Chinese all the time, so it was really funny to say some of the stuff in Chinese. I think I'll make a post about it.

Anyways wasn't it the koreans who called zerglings the "dog pack". Strangely enough they were kinda wolfish when i first saw them (alien wolves)

Maybe they should give the marines a rocket or grenade launcher special ability as an upgrade.  The grenade launcher does AoE concussive damage and is good vs. infantry while the rocket launcher would be good vs buildings and tanks

 

I would like to Suggest, im wondering if blizzarard will, create a Terran Alarm i mean the alarm that is very noisy,, examplae while you are playing as Terran when your base detect an enemy there will ba an alarm, thhe one used when there is a person gets to your house, .i forgot the name.

 

they already had the alarm (kinda) and you could push space to go to the event... ( i hope I'm not confusing games). These upgrades sound a lot like Dawn of War, and in my experience it was cool, but also a lot of effort to click on all these individual units and pick an ugrade for each one. This would be an even bigger pain if there were many to choose from... (hmmm which one should I pick... flamethrower.... or sniper-rifle.... or maybe minigun.... darn my workers are dead !!!)

As far as making the names simple and cool I recommend the zergling to be renamed the Ravenous Hound of Unabridged Destruction... try saying that three times fast...
