How about a photon cannon that launches Archons?

Okay hey erhm... risking being called a noob for bringing facts and numbers into a perfectly good speculation discussion too... I'm testing it now! Will update with the results soon...

    - First testing all three at once (hoping the pylon isn't attacked/out of the way enough but close enough too): this really depends on which attacks which... the first time, both PCs attacked the SC and the SC attacked the PCs & destroyed one before falling while the Bunker obviously lashed away at all three... and won because in the end it was fighting only one PC. I switched around the placement a bit till I was pretty sure it was balanced... I even placed the Bunker practically in-between the PCs and the SC, but the Zerg and Protoss apparently dislike each other more than the Terran cause they kept attacking each other... I think it has something to do with priorities... giving me more reason to test it one on one... (btw, when the Bunker was almost in the middle, the PCs were farther away from the SC and it took them longer to destroy it, and afterwards the PCs were almost destroyed already by the Marines' fire and the SC, so they were destroyed more easily by the Bunker, so distance is indeed a factor for these PCs!)

    - Now testing Bunker vs PCs. With PCs placed directly versus the Bunker, the Protoss is the absolute superior. They beat the Bunker quite easily, probably largely because it's spreading its fire too much... this can't be tested though, cause the Bunker can't be ordered to attack anything. After the Marines exited, they owned of course, but it was already established that that couldn't count. Placing the PCs farther away, I tested again and discovered that the Bunker now actually destroyed one of the PCs before falling. At about the maximum possible range, where it took both of them a second or so to notice each others' existence, the Bunker attacked one PC at a time, effectively killing them both (but ending up in the red and burning down)... this is a coincidence, since when I tried it again it attacked differently, and this time it spread its Marines' fire and still killed them both (3 fired at one, 1 at the other), but now it had like 1 HP left afterwards and it exploded not even a second after the PCs. The Bunker does have an increasing chance when it's placed farther away.

    - Bunker vs SC. Although I also think it doesn't matter much with these two, first they were adjacent to each other, then apart. Both times were extremely close with the SC only barely winning. The Bunker seems to have a knack for noticing distant enemies earlier though, so it gets a head start when placed at a distance (I noticed this a few times when it was up against the PCs too)... it still lost though.

    - SC vs PCs. I made the Terran allied here (since that was controlled by me and I still wanted visibility (and couldn't remember the cheat code)) and I'm assuming it didn't distract either the SC or the PCs more xD. Well, that was exciting... not. The PCs easily won. The SC just wasn't fast enough to destroy the first one before taking too much damage to be able to beat the second =) in fact, as soon as it destroyed the first one, it was destroyed itself before doing a point of damage to the second!

So, they both lost against the Bunker in a FFA fight because they just didn't attack it and the Bunker attacked them all... but one on one, they both owned the Bunker and the PCs owned the SC =)

Hope that settles it! There, I killed the thread, you can all stop discussing now.

(Hey, you did say (I don't remember who) someone should test it sometime)

Everyone thank Whatsifsowhatsit for his efforts. Very nicely done.

    ----- Conclusion -----

    - Bunker beats Sunken and Photon in 1v1v1
    - Photon beats Bunker in 1v1 (in small distance)
    - Bunker beats Photon in 1v1 (in far distance)
    - Photon beats Sunken in 1v1
    - Sunken beats Bunker in 1v1

    * Distance does affect the efficiency of Photons *
    * Photon and Sunken has slow reactions on approaching enemies *

In his experiment, the bunkers only beat the photon cannons on "maximum firing distance"
In close range, the photon wins, and as close range = more possible locations, the conclusion is that photon wins overall

alright it'll list it in more detail

Cool =D I was worrying you wouldn't like it...

Btw I think that with Bunker vs PCs, the PCs would win even at maximum distance if the Bunker spread its fire even more, say 2 Marines on the one and 2 on the other, since when 3 attacked the one and 1 the other, it only had 1 HP left at the end already, and we all know focusing fire is stronger... right?

And finally I don't think the Bunker should be declared winner, because the fact the PCs and the SC didn't attack it are hardly a big feat on the Bunker's side... that's why I did it 'tournament style', since the priorities shouldn't influence which one(s) win(s) I guess...

yeah this is the thing I've observed.....I remembered once i was fooling around on a game against computer....I was zerg and i built like 200 sunken colonies across the entire map unit i reached my enemy's base. Then i've notice that when a built a sunken colony that is within enemy photon's range, the photon didn't attack my sunken until 5 seconds after my sunken started attacking it. this is strange.....

If they were all fighting, I'd say the colony. First off, it has more heatlh AND can self repair, along with the fact that it's attack is almost instant, whereas the Photon Cannons take time, while the Marines in the bunker are exceptionally weak.

Well that might be true if they would all have the same chance of attacking one another... but the Bunker beats the Photons if they're far apart, the Photons beat the Sunken and the Sunken beats the Bunker...

Does anybody know of a way to test them all when there's equal chances for the SC to attack the Bunken or the PCs, and same for the PCs etc.? That would be cool...

    All stationary defenses suck. :p

i can do the same amount of damage as a sunken colony AND have mobility/air capabilities by spawning a bunch of hydras >:D

besides. this is obviously an unbalanced equation cause...TWO photon cannons? how 'bout you spend the same amount of money to make defenses then see how it turns out. sunken colonies are cheap, you get one for less then a photon cannon or a loaded bunker. so what if my one sunken colony loses to two of your photon cannons or one of your bunkers. in actuality i'd have two or more sunkens with less minerals then your defenses. so bleh.

i shall end my rant now.

I lol'd because of orphean talking about probe who repairs bunkers.. at least twice..

it's the first time i hear this... it's pretty funny

btw.. no offence man.. anyone who knows that a bunker can be repaired knows about the workers.. I know you knew their names lol.. it's just funny.. and.. everyone understood what you meant.. so.. theres no problem.. it's just fun

Cerebrate Daggoth: It is true that static defense is not nearly as good as early units. They certainly needs some improvements. And Blizzard does not want players to rely too heavily on static defense. And the reason that I said 2 photon cannons is because a cannon have only 100HP and 100S whereas a sunken colony has 400HP, it's not that unbalanced if you think about it.

I still say the bunker is undisputed champ since in a real game the marines would pop out and kill everything.
