Hi guys, wondering what your thoughts are when you encounter a Terran who has been pushing hard from the beginning and eventually is camping out of your base with Marines / Marauders / Tanks.. what would your only solution be? (imagine not super late game, but say 8 Marines, 8 Marauders, 2 tanks) On another note, what's the best solution when a terran comes at you super early game with 1) 1 or 2 reapers or 2) 1 or 2 hellions? thanks for ideas!
i just watched a game where the terran had a similar group of men. what the zerg player did was had hydralisk and roaches. he upgraded burrow, and all the other upgrades for the hydra and the roach. burrow the roach abit futher away from your base, leave your hydras at the base. once the terran attacks, he would probably think he got the game, but then you unborrowed your roaches and killed his tanks first. So basically, you wanna try and sandwich your opponent. This could be done with lings as well. if you dont have burrow. leave your lings somewhere else not too far away from your base. When the terran army attack, let your hydras attack front on and your lings ambush at the back. Yeah...you wanna try to have a variety of zerg units. Not just hydras. Not just roaches. Not just lings. Variety is the key imo.
Another option is to go mutalisk. "8 Marines, 8 Marauders, 2 tanks" Odds are you can produce enough mutalisks to kill 8 marines. If they spend the time teching to tanks then you definitely can hold long enough to spit some mutalisks out and wreck havoc with that army composition. As far as early reapers and helions go, queens work wonders, so do speed-upgraded zerglings.
Terran players usually wate resources early to wall of their base. They assume that they can just turtle and play for the late game. Screw that. Me and my buddy have been ROLLING through Terran players by just using a few banelings to burst his wall (6-8) and then mass speedlings flood his weak sauce behind the wall. I have seen good success with this, I don't save my replays but if I use this strategy today i'll post one.
cool thanks guys. I find that speedlings might work against hellion but reapers are a little more difficult to catch as they just jump on and off the cliffs.. I guess the next question will be how many mutas do you need per [x] number of marines to make it worthwhile? on a side note, getting enough quantities of mutas quickly (first 5-10mins) seems much more difficult now with 2 extractors as drones only get 4 gas per visit...
HD starcraft has a good video about the baneling bust on youtube. The key is striking at the right moment. If you try to expand or waste resources building unnecessary things they'll have tanks or too much bio for this to work.
Correct I forgot that little detail. I definitely agree its a baneling/speedling rush. You should be showing up there about 7 - 10 minutes into the game and he will have a small squad of marines and some marauders. If oyu have enough speedlings you will make quick work of his defenses and head straight to his economy then type ROFL and LOL @ his base. GG
This is how to do the Baneling Burst, but I end up losing the game because I did not use my advantage when I had it. And because Terran is massively OP in my opinion. Check the replay my 2 expos lose to his (essentially) none because of my mutalisk harass. Give me tips if you see areas of improvement - at around the 15 minute mark I thought for sure this one was in the bag ... but as you'll see

This game is 2v2 but you can do this in 1v1 as well. I think the terran player also had a small crack in his wall lower down. Wall is brought down at about 8 min, played this game with an RL friend.
