Hey guys, Gold Zerg player here. Once I start ranking up and facing high gold/plat players I get on losing streaks, then beat up real hard on lower gold/silver players in an infinite cycle (well it hasnt been that long, but still). I am having no trouble with terran, and zvz is kind of a micro fest that I'm fairly comfortable with, but protoss is really killin me. It's odd though. Some games I feel like I'm playing perfectly, I macro up this huge army and expand everywhere, and other games I can't seem to make enough drones to support the army I need to deal with toss. Like I said, I'm gold, average APM 50-60, and I included a replay for anyone who wants to rip me apart. This is a game where, I felt I did the right thing, but got owned by an army that was bigger, and obviously funded better. Thanks in advance guys
You should've scouted a little bit later so you got a better idea of what he was doing. Also converting an overlord into an overseer to scout when you get your lair helps alot. You shouldn't be pushing with roachs and zerglings against stalkers and zealots, you will lose in the open without support. Hydras rip apart gateway forces easily (At the end he just had a much larger army). Don't attack expansions (the gold) with your whole army if you plan on running if their army arrives. You need to build more drones as well! Personally I don't like using roachs much against Toss as they don't really counter anything. I just use them for protecting my hydras or handling colosii. If they are 4 gate rushing you can get enough hydras and spines to fend it off if you tech up early.
I absolutely agree with everything you said. Here's the deal. This game was like my 6th loss to protoss today. I normally skip roaches because, as you said, they don't counter anything other than zealots. I usually only get roaches if I see 2 gates going up. But I was desperate to try something different this game and wanted to apply pressure. Usually I go lings + spine crawlers till I get mass hydras out. In regard to me pushing at his expand... I severely underestimated his army and didn't want to commit so i got out of there. About drones... Like I said in the original post, some games I struggle to find the balance between drones and units, and others I seem to have perfect harmony and the smoothest game ensues where I own. But yea, this game I was totally mineral starved and his army dominated me. Thanks for the insight man. I need to just stay alive till hydras and be ready to spire up so corruptors can snipe his collosi. If anyone else would be so kind as to watch the replay and give me some tips I would be grateful. My journey to gold was simple. I was #1 bronze for so long with like 40 wins and 5-10 losses. As soon as I hit #4 gold I felt like I was playing the game wrong. Like I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. thanks guys. Love the SC2 community
